Why no Mexican Genes in Mexican Swine Flu?
Greg's Blog ^ | April 28, 2007 | Greg C.

An analysis of the the phylogenic tree (the component strains) present in the current swine flu cases in Texas and California show no identifiable components of Mexican origin.

The H1 protein (hemagglutinin) shows evidence from past cases from Korea, China and Turkey as well as Indiana, Minnesota, Ohio and Kansas.

The N1 protein (neuraminidase) shows evidence of having come from China, Hong Kong, Mongolia, Hokkaido, Japan, Chonburi and Chachoengsao (Thailand) and Italy.

Figure 1 shows the phylogenic tree of the H1 protein (hemagglutinin) of the U.S. strain of the current influenza virus.

Figure 2 shows the phylogenic tree of the N1 protein (neuraminidase) of the current...

One explanation for no Mexican origin in a flu ostensibly originating in Mexico: It’s a man-made strain purposely released among the populace.

Hmm. That’s certainly interesting. The first place it was diagnosed was in the US near San Diego, where (IIRC) it was thought to be an Asian swine flu until more thoroughly analyzed. I think it was first identified by the Navy’s health service, which monitors things like this very closely. Someone posted an interesting article a couple of days ago on this.

Interesting that there’s so much Northern Midwest presence in it. I didn’t even realize it was possible to break it down to that level.

Obama’s election was guaranteed by the perfect storm of market crash etc., in september. Now, 3 months into his administration, this pops up. Given that genetic manipulation is a reality, I am unwilling to discount any non-coincidence theory at this point.

“One explanation for no Mexican origin in a flu ostensibly originating in Mexico: It’s a man-made strain purposely released among the populace.”

Hmmm. Well, it is an explanation. However, with airplanes that can put an infected person into a country on the other side of the world within 14 hours, it is not a terribly likely scenario.

Occam’s Razor, google it.

Regards!

If I made a custom-made bug to kill off a segment of mankind - why would I release it in Mexico, where TIME would eventually transmit it across the world (ie. Cancun, Coszomel, et. al.) largely though tourism? First off, the likely carriers will be young, fit, college people on spring break - these kids have great immunity, and a large portion will resist the bug. This bug would then spread from Mexico (and invade other countries indiscriminately).

If I made a bug, I’d release it in a busy US airport hub(O’Hare, Denver, Houston, Salt Lake), where I’d likely get a HUGE and sudden domestic infection rate. The age group in a typical airport consists of young families travelling, businessmen (who are older, and typically not in the prime of their life), the elderly. A good cross-section; each dispersing to infect a very wide area.

The entire goal, is to cripple your target, consume his resources, demoralize and weaken your target. Mexico is a lousy target. They are not densely populated, they have no economic, military or manufacturing backbone to break. Face it, without the US holding that backbone in place, it would break by itself solely due to the corrupton inherent in Mexican politics.

Sorry, I don’t buy it.

There are no Mexican genes because Mexico has never been identified as a source of influenza before. You have to have a history before you point back to a gene or virus and say it’s similar to a previous one.

These genes don’t have a nationality in any event.

“Sorry, I don’t buy it.”

Devil’s advocate -

What if that is not the intent?

Suppose the intent is to use this bug to create a public sense of panic? In panic mode, western governments get a good bit more leeway to do whatever they want. I can see considerable benefit to the administration in adding another notch on the panic meter already impacting the US tax sheep.

These people (europeans too) want to literally remake the world economic system, after all.

If the intent is to induce a panic; they have to do more than a couple dozen deaths. SARS failed to induce a panic, and I am not worried about this flu (at this point).

When we start seeing thousands or millions of deaths - then we’ll see something. Personally, I find it amazing that the Democrats feel that this does not justify closing the border, or building the fence. I hope this backfires on them; their oath of office states, quite clearly, that they are to defend the Constitution and the people of the USA. They have raped the Constitution, and are leaving the border wide open to allow any disease in Mexico to travel unimpeded to the US.

One of us Minnesotans probably brought it down there during our spring break vacation.
We have lots of birds and pigs. Height of flu season too.
Minnesotans just don’t die from it.

Ya sure you betcha.

I read on another thread that the Mexican index case was a pakistani. I wish I’d bookmarked it, can’t find it now.

Not if the DBM runs with it and turns it into a panic. It has been a headline story the last two days here in the Indianapolis paper even though we have had no known cases here yet, and Oprah is doing her whole show today on the “KILLER FLU”. This is how you take an innocuous flu bug and use it to stampede a world into panic.

agreed. the wall-to-wall coverage to date far exceeds what seems to be justified based on available data.

We had a call last night from our school district about the “flu pandemic.” The recording told us nothing specific about measures they’d take, only that they were “watching the situation closely” and that they would keep us informed.

The recording also made mention that the district’s head nurse has just returned from a seminar on this very topic. My wife just raised her eyebrows and shook her head. That struck us both as a little odd.

The local news last night covered the SWINE FLU PANDEMIC (their emphasis, not mine). It looks like we’re getting ramped up for something; probably the left hand trying to distract us from what the right hand is doing.
