Grave concern about Democrats retiring or dropping out of election races
self | 1/6/10 | NewJerseyJoe

Posted on 01/06/2010 5:47:38 AM PST by NewJerseyJoe

My first reaction to the recent wave of Democrat politicians either retiring or announcing they won't run for reelection -- Chris Dodd being the latest -- was one of joy. "Here's the 'thinning of the herd' that we expected!"

Upon further reflection -- and seeing how eager Nancy Pelosi was to sacrifice the "blue dogs" in order to pass her Deathcare bill -- I'm wondering if this is not a grand scheme by the Democrats ... to throw under the bus (with promises of future payoffs, of course) any Democrats considered too "damaged" to re-elect -- and replace them with "more likeable" (and thus more electable) Democrats, in the hopes of maintaining a majority.

Considering the criminal shenanigans, payoffs, bribes, etc. that we've seen over the last six months, not only would I not be surprised if I'm right -- I actually expect to be proven correct on this (at least in some electoral races).

A Blue Dog Democrat is one that will bark a couple of times before rolling over to get its tummy scratched.

Most other Democrats just grab your leg and hump it.

I am beginning to wonder if our “vote” even counts...

Years ago, I was coaching football at a small college...The head coach gave me slips of paper to pass out to the team to vote for captain and co-captains...I did so, then after a bit, I collected them in a box...went to the head coaches office and presented him the box...

He turned and dumped it in the trash can and said, “Ok, the captain is “so and so” and the co-captains are....”

I am beginning to wonder if this is how our “votes” are handled....

The Dems improved their chances on those two by retiring unpopular incumbents.

A RAT is a RAT. I can’t believe people will be that stupid. But you might be right.

I truly hope people smell a RAT this November and will pull the lever for Conservatives for America..

yeah i heard
Dems will probably keep this seat though it still may be possible for a GOP pickup if the national mood is still as sour on Dems as it is now

Do not put anything past the Dims, but hopefully America is waking up to see how absolutely and incorrigibly corrupt this Congress is. And hopefully that will mean a big decrease in the number of Dums in the Senate and the House.

We will REMEMBER IN NOVEMBER!

with Dodd yes he was damaged and any other Dem in CT will probably (but not definitely) keep the seat. however in CO gov, MI gov and ND Senate this only solidifies GOP opportunities.

Mebbe a mixed bag in CT. But if the retirement conveyor belt continues, I think it’s generally good news for Conservatives, as you point out DM1.

When we get back into power, we need to have comprehensive election reforms. It’s such a basic and important citizen’s right.

There are no more “Blue Dog Democrats” They are all the same color—Red. In less they rigg the next election or pay off the citizens I can’t see them holding on to power. They may know something we don’t know—like the RNC is really a wing of the Democratic Party and they plan to run some awful dudes for congress—people no one would vote for. Like McCain.

You know, incumbents have a great advantage typically, and while Dodd may be unpopular, how can any RAT distance themselves from bammy’s socialism? Just aint gunna happen easily, imho. That portion of the population that is inclined to defeat, or at least (the squishy middle) reign in our dear leader, will still not vote for the RAT in CT. And if many RAT incumbents leave office, I can't see that as a generally bad result.

Sure...they will try and do the best for themselves as they always do. BUT...they will not overcome the negatives they are generating. Just my opinion.

Incumbents do typically have some advantage unless it is an anti-incumbent year (like this one).
there are a few things to keep in mind here though. CT like NJ and MA are knee jerk Blue states. given the chance they will always vote for the Dem unless the particular individual is absolutely heinous and even that sometimes does not stop them (think Barney Frank, Ted Kennedy). CT is looking more and more to me like the 2002 Senate race in NJ where Toricelli (D) the corrupt dip would have lost to the R (I think his name was Doug Forrestal) by nearly 10 points. At the last moment the Dems pulled a bait and switch and threw Lautenberg into the race while Toricelli bowed out. Lautenberg won - he was an acceptable D within the stain of corruption on him. At this point and time I would have to equate CT with the NJ scenario. All this being said i do think it is POSSIBLE but not LIKELY that an R can win this seat. Depends on how sour the mood gets come November.

Here, another take on incumbency. The RATS are the incumbent party in the two law making branches (well I guess the judiciary has taken to legislating from the bench, but that’s another topic.)

That said, throwing the RATS OUT, any RAT, in any race, anywhere is where the anti-incumbency mood you point out, may play out...even in CT, even in my silly blue WA State...

yep exactly
as things stand now i would have to say the CT race leans Dem especially since their is a nasty R primary and apparently none on the Dem side at this point. If the mood does continue to sour then any Dem anywhere is going to be in trouble. Also worth noting if by some miracle Scott Brown wins in MA it may cause an avalanche of Dem retirements and completely demoralize Dems all over the place.

Had not thought of that until I was watching Fox News this morning. They were talking about all the special deals made to various states to gather votes for the health care reform bill - barf. I’ll bet by the time the mid-terms elections roll around, there will be a big swing away from the liberal mindset.

I think this is a great opportunity for conservative to run for election in a campaign about issues. When you have long serving members they can get re-elected on name recognition alone. In this year’s election many of these races will have a more level playing field than these states have seen in years. If Dodd does retire than 2 very long serving Dems will be gone from New England. This is a chance to start taking back this bloc from the liberals.

It is pure folly....pure "wishful thinking" to believe that any dem having announced that they are quiting/retiring/not running for re-election made their decision "in a vacuum" so to speak.

Of course they are making deals!!!!!

Look at their behavior in congress....deals, spin, lies, bribes, theft, and other democrat "normal" activites.

Why would anyone think that these losers are leaving without sweetheart deals??
