While that may be true, it’s undeniable that many US law enforcement personnel have begun to behave this way towards US citizens inside this country. I think it is the outrage at the way some US citizens have been treated that makes people sympathize with this Canadian couple.

Oh, does this mean that smart-ass Americans can’t write political pieces?

I see your point, but how police INSIDE this country act towards US CITIZENS is a completely different issue.

the political class hates whites, and is espousing racial conflict.

Obama and his wife despise whitey. If it were up to them, we’d be living in a gulag if living at all.

First amendment; it’s supposedly for keeping the Government from prohibiting/punishing political speech [among several other things].

“fourth amendment” is for American Citizens and does not extend to a border containment field or any port or any immigration point, within the U.S.

A foreigner crossing into the US from a foreign country is not a first amendment issue.

Legally...sure. But it certainly doesn’t help LEO’s and their image problem. COP does not spell GOD.

Any bad guy, no matter what his trappings, would NOT act like that Canadian guy did. It is the last thing a bad guy would do and those agents knew it. They just felt like hassling those people. Just one explanatory sentence in a reasonable tone from the first agent to the Canadian would have defused the situation entirely.

I’m not letting the Canadian guy off the hook - he’s from Ontario and lots of people there have an attitude like his. They can be a real pain in the a$$. The border agents must know that and not like it. In one respect, this strikes me like the stories of little old ladies getting frisked at the airport while the middle eastern guy gets a smile and a nod. Wrong focus.

A reasonable compromise might have been to just deny them entry because they refused to co-operate and let them go home without all the bullying.

Gotta agree with you oldbill.

The Canadian was pretty much justifiably frustrated right up to 2:20 on the audio.

But at that point, he was out of bounds. You don’t take that sort of tone with law enforcement if they’re acting within reason.

My only question is, was this audio a *deliberate* setup? That sort of argumentative tone almost seems like it was for show.

The guy is a jerk. Cross a border and answer the questions asked, do not act as if the question is idiotic, do not argue and demand to know the reason for the questions.

There is no reason to continue with the interview or search. You have someone who is uncooperative, at a border crossing or point of immigration.

An uhinged person? Mental Case or just retarded? We don’t know until we investigate what their problem is.

The Canadian wife’s hysterical screeching was actually what motivated the Agents to hold them.

The guys probably suffer from PTSD and leave the field of fire, every morning, when they walk out of their house and go to work at the border.

I could definitely see how they might want the noise to just shut up.

That’s cool. Similar incident when I entered Chile. My backpack was checked, but did have some sharp edged thingy.

They emptied my back pack in front of me and wanted to know what the purpose was for each and every item, including the first aid kit.

I was told not to carry the sharp edged thingy unless I was in the area I said I intended on carrying it and even then, it might be a good idea to keep it in the bottom of the backpack, so I won’t get hassled by another soldier.

I said sure, that is what I thought the law was and no problemo. They even helped me put it all back together and asked about some of the technical stuff such as my GPS, Bino’s, waterproof paper.

Nice guys and I had a great vacation. Some of the equipment actually came in handy like my GPS, when I went helicopter snowboarding and wasn’t really sure where I was or if I was actually going the right direction back to the lodge. And the 120 lumen flashlight that helped me see way off into the distance and reassured me. headlamp was handy, while climbing over stuff too.
