I was just reading some of the political websites and found something really surprising: Most of the people who commented on any of the articles weren't actually commenting on the articles at all! Instead, they were either tossing in their two cents worth about some other project entirely; commenting on some other comment; commenting on whether a person commenting had the right to make such a comment at that particular venue; or commenting on the published article in such a way as to make it obvious that they had either misundertood what was written or ......

And, especially if the guy is a crazed Left-Winger lurking on conservative sites to damage the competition, wouldn’t you think that he would have taken the time and trouble to make himself an expert on the subject matter so that he could do a good job of whatever he was trying to do?

That would require rationality and objective productivity, and the overcoming of the tendancy to emotionalism and the inherent laziness of libtards.

The number one reason for not reading a post is that it is excerpted. IN this case, I went to the blog because I was mildly interested.

As a result of visiting the blog, my IE windows ended up “locked” in a state where you could interact but it wouldn’t fetch anymore. This could simply be because of my company’s filters interacting with all the hundreds of add-ons thrown into people’s blogs these days (actually, National Review suffers from this as well, sometimes locking me up because of all their facebook hooks).

So I generally avoid people’s blogs, because they put all sorts of widgets and ads on them that don’t do well with my firewalls, and it adds work for me.

I remember when college football was 3 yards and a cloud of dust. That game was fun to watch.

From the actual article:

People who go to baseball games seem to care enough about the game, the team, and the players, that they can spout statistics and comparative data like an expert. Wouldn’t you think that that would be the case with politics, too?
If you grabbed 100 random people entering a MLB park on a weekend to watch a game, how many of those 100 would be able to "spout statistics and comparative data like an expert"? Nowhere near 100, I'd bet, and likely well less than half. (Without doing the experiment myself, I'd put the over/under at 25.)

Why would a political (or any other) website be different? Yes, that number is going to be higher, as the website sample is self-selecting to be the people who actually care enough to post something, but there's going to be a significant percentage who treat the site as a social gathering rather than a "cause".

Then there are those who are simply "party crashers", no better than the obnoxious drunk boor three rows up smoking a cheap cigar in a "no smoking zone", who seem to delight in p*ssing other people off.

Finally, there's the highly-involved-to-the-point-of-myopia folks who seem the public gathering as an opportunity to hammer their own personal opinions and priorities, regardless of the topic at hand. These are the people who show up to the stadium with political-themed signs and are the same mentality as those who post a specific opinion on message board threads that are completely unrelated to the topic.

The short version: people who behave properly aren't noticed. The minority who act like idiots and jerks stick out like sore thumbs. In real life, or on the web.

And now back to our scheduled thread derailment...

Based on Roger's posting history it looks like once he's hit the post button he never checks the thread again. Since the purpose of the thread does not appear to be to promote discussion that would make it ...
