If NPR stood by their original concept of bringing culture to the typical American...with jazz, classical and opera music...and poetry...then all of us would be forever in their debt. Somehow, they’ve lost their compass and map...and we’ve got a bunch of folks on public handout for news money. And frankly, with eighty possibilities for news now, and the government funding this massive internet across America, to every single acre...why bother with NPR anymore?
They can go back to the original concept, or close up shop. It’s their choice.
If the Founders had felt culture was important for Federal administration, I suspect it would’ve been in the constitution. It ain’t and it ain’t.
If states want to support this stuff, fine. Otherwise, NPR and PBS need to fianlly leave the nest with Big Bird and fly on their own.
“Somehow, theyve lost their compass and map”
I think that when all media began expanding and NPR was becoming irrelevant, the left saw an opportunity for a nationwide network of leftist propaganda (with some decent stuff mixed in). Then they took over every 5KW college station they could coerce with grant money.
They didn’t so much lose their map, they forged a new one.
Culture sucks!!!
I don't get the joke. Helen Keller was blind and deaf. Any radio program would bore her. Even Twisted Sister...
If not, de-fund, NOW.
My town has a killer independent station (WYCE), with all of the niche music you can want. No lefty outwardly lefty commentary either!
And plus they play Earth and Sky, which I only listen to because I used to actually listen to it on NPR back in Jr. High in the early 90s before I discovered AM talk radio.
Podcasts now take care of all of my news/entertainment needs.
The point was just that, she could have no connection to it and it would repulse even her.
Thats a better word...repulse...I think I’ll change it.
Thanks :-)
