Once again the Republican leadership caves and then tries to tell us they won. Just six weeks ago our mealy-mouthed leadership told us they were going to cut $100 billion from this years budget. A few short weeks later the gutless wonders leading our party reduced that number to $60 billiondollars. Then late last night the well tanned amoeba, John Boehner caved to the socialist-in-chief and settled on $38 billion.
Boehner has been tooting his own horn saying that this is the largest budget cut in history. Well of course its the largest cut in history, you fools in Congress have spent the last decade spending the taxpayers money like a crack addict. The fact is that $38 billion is only equal to one-percent of this years budget and doesnt come anywhere close to covering this years projected $1.3 trillion deficit.

So just how should they have handled it? Tell us what the winning strategy should have been?
Republicans waive the white flag of surrender
I don't think that word means what you think it means.
Boehner os like a moon jellyfish,
No spine.
No confidence in the GOP leadership or dem lite.
Since they “Waived” the white flag, does that mean you are saying they didn’t surrender?
We can beat the Rats with a war of a thousand cuts. Patience will get us where we need to go. This was the Rats time but the Ryan budget will be heard, fought and cutting will happen. We will win the Planned Abortionhood battle. The scam of the EPA and regulating carbon will be stopped. 2012 will be the Mayan end for the Rats and their leftist rule.
Shallow.
Yes! Finally, somebody gets it. Unfortunately, shankbear, that's two of us out of millions.
Die-hard conservatives thought that if I couldn't get everything I asked for, I should jump off the cliff with the flag flying-go down in flames. No, if I can get 70 or 80 percent of what it is I'm trying to get ... I'll take that and then continue to try to get the rest in the future. -- Ronald Reagan
The winning strategy was to find some balls and brains and propose a balanced budget... you know, do their jobs.
The debt shot up by $54 billion in just the 8 days before they caved and cut a whole $38 billion. So we lost even more ground while playing tiddly-winks instead of fighting a war on irresponsible spending.
I don’t think that word means what you think it means.
All very well, but for the next two years, the only way the Republicans can get ANYTHING is to put it on a budget bill or some other bill that HAS TO BE PASSED.
Otherwise the Senate can just derail it, or Obama can veto it.
No way now to defund Planned Parenthood, because it will just be blocked or vetoed. So, evidently we fund abortions and perversion of kids in our schools for at least another year.
Since this was an absolutely bottom line issue for the conservative base, and since they traded it in for something like a one percent cut in the annual deficit, I don’t think that’s much of an accomplishment.
The one who wins a war, usually does it by perseverance and smarter tactics, of which Obama is woefully deficient.
1. The GOP leadership should be there to fight the hard fights and come away as winners. 2. One basic thing I learned in business was to under-promise and over-deliver. The GOP has it backwards. They promise good things and then proceed to substantially under-deliver. Makes them look like weak jerks.
And just exactly how would you have proposed getting it passed in the Senate and then the President signing it.
Die-hard conservatives thought that if I couldn’t get erything I asked for, I should jump off the cliff with the flag flying-go down in flames. No, if I can get 70 or 80 percent of what it is I’m trying to get ... I’ll take that and then continue to try to get the rest in the future. — Ronald Reagan
You mean to tell me that you can't think of a way to beat them over their heads with wanting $1.5 Trillion deficits while proposing NO DEFICITS?
Vote out every incumbent. That is my vote for now on.
I would have let the government shut down then gone on the offensive, letting everyone with a microphone and a pen know that the Commander in Chief cares more about Planned Parenthood than he does the brave men and women fighting and dying for their country. I would have replayed clips of Dems defending PP while saying the army is expendable then let the rage build. Instead we caved because our, ahem, fearless leaders didn't want to be seen as the blame for a budget that was supposed to be passed months before they won any elections.
Most of the people on this page know that we have the presidency and the senate.
Whutswrongwitchu????????
Go away.
If the Reps shut down the Govt till 2012. The Dems would have a Super majority in both houses when the dust settled.
Meanwhile while the Govt is “ShutDown” who pays the troops we have in harms way.
We have to take all we can get now and work on our own Super majority then we can force the Prez’s hands no matter their party. Lets not throw the baby out with the bath water because we did not get enough today.
We didn't cave.....WE were surrendered, w/o cause.
*Disgust*....and we were told, "Work with / Trust Us"
the (Washington) Ruling Elitists, "screwed" US(A) again.
I think this is how it works in 2012:
A. The budget for 2012 originates in the House and all appropriation bills originate in House.
B. If there is no funding in those appropriation bills for Planned Parenthood the bills sent to the Senate will be amended to add it in and then the House will asked to vote it in. It will be a replay of yesterday and I expect it to be repeated over and over as the 2012 budget is argued over.
Get out the popcorn. The show is just starting.
I agree. How many battles did we win during the Revolutionary war? I think every one was a loss or draw except the last, and Britain lost.
The Dem tactic is get what you can until next time take some more then some more than a little at a time so nobody notices. We want it all at once.
Bury your dead, reload, move on, confront, attrit. Think decades. This war will last more than 1 year. Think long. We get to vote again soon....
Yes the real battle will be the 2012 budget.
This was to try and get rid of the 2011 CR “Continuing Resolution” because NO budget was Passed by the previous congress.
The part that worries me is Rep, Conservative Indies, and Tea party members are bitching and moaning about the size of the deficit reduction. Not enough or best we can do.
News Flash the DEMS and President still not have signed anything for the remaining part of the 2011 budget year.
A Govt shutdown is still possible.
When the hell have they ever served as even Mayors? They are getting blue ribbons for picking fly $hit out of pepper, and not much else.
This behavior makes me think of a Quarterback(Boehner) trying to run the team, and every time he does not get a touchdown every play, the peanut gallery is throwing all kinds of nasty stuff at him when he is trying to call the signals. This is childish behavior, and until you put your butt in that QB position and know the rules, regs, and all the ins and outs and players, and have been there and done that, you sound foolish and uninformed.
This is not child's play, and we are dealing with the crazy $#$%&^*(#$%^ Communistic left wing nuts.
“When confronted about this Boehner and his flunkies use the excuse that were only one-half of one-third of the government. Well Mr. Speaker, thats about as weak an excuse as there is because the one-half of one-third that you control, just happens to control all the purse strings. In case you forgot, the House controls one hundred percent of the spending and taxing authority of the Federal Government.”
EXACTLY
As a “writer,” you should learn (know) the difference between waive and wave.
Apparently.
NO IT WON'T.. THE PATTERN IS SET..
Then they will whine and cave and then ask for our votes to get the senate and the White house or else they can not do anything..BS
This was nothing more than a political dance
“In case you forgot, the House controls one hundred percent of the spending and taxing authority of the Federal Government.
But without IT passing in the Senate and being signed into law by the President. It is not worth the paper it is written on.
There in lies the problem no matter how much we want to cut the budget. The house is only 1/3 of the process needed.
Loosing the war is how we got where we are today. The marxists have beat us like a drum since the sixties. The only lever of power we have is the national debt ceiling. Do you think the pubbies will play that card? Will our nation be better off destroying the welfare state now by destroying the government's ability to borrow or enslaving future generations to unending debt as is the marxists plan. I know what I would do. And if we had done it in 1995 we wouldn't have the existential problem we have now. As to their tactics...I urge you to consider that marxists own Academia, the courts, the senate, the whitehouse, the media, public schools, the federal bureaucracy, etc. They are incredibly good at what they do and frankly we are not.
With the terrible economy Obama and the Democrats have generated and voter's obvious desire to see federal spending cut, this seems like an awful shallow 'victory'. The cry from right-wing commentators to 'wait until the 2012 budget/debt ceiling fight' sounds a bit optimistic considering that it was so difficult to get the little we got this time, but I'm willing to wait a few months before throwing up my hands and deciding that my country is screwed - and me along with it - because the Republicans simply don't have the will and/or the guts to call the Democrats bluff and stand firm on simple, obvious decisions, such as true spending reductions and no more funding of liberal Democrats pet projects, such as NPR and Planned Parenthood.
We need to find a few savvy, articulate and gutsy Representatives to take on the liberal media news shows and succinctly explain why the Democrats are killing the U.S. economy and why they must be stopped. We desperately need conservative voices to be heard. Voices that will parry with the obnoxious ABC, CBS, NBC news anchors and not wimp out or allow themselves to be made to look like idiots. In short: we need some tough politicians who, like Reagan, can smile and chuckle while cogently explaining the Republican position and it's basis while making leftist news interviewers and liberal Democrat mouthpieces look foolish for opposing common sense policies that most Americans would applaud, if they understood them. Right now, few do. As for the 2011 budget deal, to paraphrase King Pyrrhus, many more such 'victories' and the GOP will be undone.
Do you ever wonder how people who claim to revere the Constitution, can so consistently forget about something so basic as how a bill becomes law?
We all understand the desire to change things -- but it has to be done according the way our government works. And the political realities of how it works, are not entirely to our advantage right now.
The whitehouse really wanted a shut down, but they didn't get it. I would say that one point constitutes a victory.
Sorry, if they buckled for a mere $38 billion the $Trillion cuts are a pipe dream. I know some are saying take what you can get, but we have heard that for 40 yrs. and we are not winning at the federal level. It’s like the election in November never happened. It’s late in the fourth quarter, we are losing and we just fumbled away the ball and those mythical future victories we are all supposed to be waiting for are going to be just that when the wheels come off the country.
Rep. Ryans budget will be disavowed by this time next year by the republican leadership because obama will be beating them over the head with it calling it reckless and them children and they will let him.
They should have shut it down and kept it down until hell froze over or the democrats caved, just exactly how did the shutdown hurt us in 96 at the congressional level. The republicans need to learn to fight back, it’s not like they don’t have options for getting their side out now unlike 1995.
The amount of money they were fighting over was the amount of money the federal government spends in 12 hours. This wasn’t a fight, it was show for TV and feeble minded people.
Wrong. All spending must start in the House. The Republicans control the House. They have 100% of the authority needed to stop funding of anything or everything. That our effete Republican "leadership" is too weak to use this power is the problem.
Maybe then they should not have made campaign promises they KNEW they could not keep. ...or maybe we should not have bothered to give it to them..maybe we should let the dems have it back if it is so unimportant
To those who say we take what we can get now and wait for the next elections to take over the Senate...
Our debt increases 4 billion per DAY (since 2007). Every day we wait makes things that much worse, for all of us.
Next, one assumes we take over the Senate in 2012. The chances of the GOP taking control of the White House or Senate is at best 50/50. What happens if we don’t take either, tread water for 2 or 4 more years?
We have no more money, and the GOP had the perfect chance to drive that point home, but Boehner caved. Since he caved this time, I think the chances are about 100% that he’ll cave on the debt limit and on the next budget. He doesn’t inspire confidence in me.
The GOP should have shut down the govt. and then go nationwide and tell us all what we don’t want to hear. With proper graphs and honest numbers, even some dems would begin to understand.
The time for patience is over. It’s time to let people know that the gravy train is gone, forever. EVERYONE is going to have to suffer, the rich and the poor, and programs will have to be cut, or eliminated, even the ones you like or benefit from. If that results in massive protests or riots, so be it, we’re not far from that as it is now. If the troops don’t get paid for a week, or a month, so be it, they enlisted so they’re stuck where they are.
We can keep hoping things get better or we can face reality. With a 55 trillion dollar debt, there is no possible way for things to continue as they have been. We need to cut the federal govt. at least 25%, cut the budget across the board at least that much, and let the chips fall where they may.
Let’s do it....for the children....
Wrong only if you are proposing a total Government Shutdown. But that is a lose lose for the Conservatives in 2012 it will be a disaster. The Repubs cannot control the Press and even it they could the Majority of America would still blame them.
Every body wants the cuts as long as it effects someone else just dont touch mine. The Dems are masters at playing that song.
You can stomp off to your room and pout if you want, but an all-or-nothing attitude will not prevail in the long run. I would liked to have had more, but this will do for a start.
The whitehouse really wanted a shut down, but they didn’t get it. I would say that one point constitutes a victory.
Aside from a pitiful $38 billion the white house and democrats got exactly what they wanted another bloated budget and the republicans got what out of this? The only ones happy with this turd are the RINO’s, that ought to tell you something.
That’s your version of events that haven’t happened.
The Republicans have the high ground on this the whole way, but they still pu$$ed out.
This fear of being blamed is exactly why weaklings like Crybaby Boehner cringe before the Dems. You can't lead by fear. If we don't get a real leader soon who will not cower before the MSM and the Dems, there is little hope for change.
Call if my lack of confidence in the Last 2 gimmie generations. My belief is if the Republican go Nuclear with a shutdown now we will just hand them back everything with interest in 2012.
Rather work on our own majority then we can force the issue after 2012. But the hour is definitely getting very late.
That is absurd. He did not cave and the democrats lost.
That we agree on. Not seeing anyone stepping up plate either.
