MSNBC Ed Schultz:”Bush cut taxes for the rich in 2000 and everything went bad”(April 19+20,2011)
MSNBC The Ed Show April,19+20, 2011 | April 22, 20100 | sickoflibs

This week Ed Schultz has been giving a interesting view of history of the Bush Clinton years. According to Ed things were just rosy in 1999 under Clinton; and then in 2000 GWBush took over he cut taxes THAT YEAR and revenue took a dive (immediately) and the jobs fled overseas.

This is a great vindication story if you are a liberal (progressive) watching MSNBC, except there is big a problem. The much derided ‘Tax cuts on the wealthy” didn’t go into effect until 2003 after the ‘Jobs and Growth Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2003’ was passed. Unfortunately that doesn’t support Ed’s narrative’s timeline showing the economy diving in 2000 because of the Bush tax cuts 'on the rich'.

More idiotic, to support this fairytale Ed tells his viewers that Bush was president and cut taxes in 2000. The presidential election was in November 2000. Don’t they remember their Gore Florida recounts in late 2000? Don’t they remember the SCOTUS decision Bush v. Gore (December 2000)? Don’t his liberal viewers even remember themselves claiming Bush was ‘Selected not elected’ in 2000? Then how can they swallow a story that is based on GWBush having to be president and cut taxes in 2000?

Ed Schultz:

Well, here comes President Bush. President Bush comes in here in the year 2000 and look at this. He says, you know what? …….. In 2000, here come the tax cuts. Here come the tax cuts right here. And what do we have right after 9/11 and right after the tax cuts? We have a dip in revenue—….. So, then, we keep on going through the Bush years and the revenue starts to come back a little bit but the spending just keeps going…
The Ed Show for Tuesday, April 19th, 2011

and Ed Schultz again:

Take a look at this chart. Because this is where America is right now and this is where we have been, our road map that we have followed for the last 10 years. Let‘s go back to 1999(the Clinton good years).
Let‘s follow the line here.
Well, in 1999, it was Bill Clinton. Then, of course, in 2000(under no good Bush), here we go with the red line. We‘re starting to push jobs overseas to other emerging markets.
And then, of course, after the Bush tax cuts went in. Where did the revenue go? Where did the job creation go? The job creation went down, after all these big tax cuts were put into effect.
And the jobs went overseas.

RE :”I hope someone reminded Ed that, during most of Bush’s presidency, the economy was very good. In Jan. 2007, Democrats regained control of both houses of Congress. Later, that year, a recession started.

Maybe ED’s timeline says that Bush was only president in 2000-2002 and 2007-2008 with Clinton in the middle during the housing bubble runup where things seemed good. That would work for his story.

They have no alternatives then to continue to spout their horse droppings to the mostly ill informed general public.

RE :”Oh, that’s right! I forgot. Bush took office by August of 2000 and the liberals warned him not to make those tax cuts for the rich white guys.

YES, and cutting taxes in 2000 was the sole cause of Obama’s deficits in 2009-2011, well just the tax cuts on the rich anyway, maybe. The ones on the middle class may be OK and not caused deficits, not sure...

In any case Ed says it's not Obama's fault, it's Bush's.

They exalt Clinton because the Dow and Nasdaq flourished. But when the Nasdaq tanked in 2000, it disappeared down the memory hole. If Slick Willy was responsible for the Dow rise, he was also responsible for the Nasdaq crash. In reality, he was responsible for neither. He just happened to be in office when the events occurred. It was mostly the Pubbie congress that forced Clinton’s hand. The tax cuts for capital gains wouldn’t have happened without a Pubbie majority. One thing we can blame Slick Willy for is the housing bubble and crash. Without the extortion by the justice department on lending institutions, the housing debacle would have been a lot less severe.

Ed is stuck on stupid. MSNBC just doesn’t have that entertainment value it did before they canned Olbermann.

RE :”They have no alternatives then to continue to spout their horse droppings to the mostly ill informed general public.

True, of course the problem they have is that ‘ill informed’ independents tend to blame everything bad on the president, and McCain isnt president, Obama is.

A very bad economy is not going to help liberals get-out-the-vote without lots of demonization. Expect lots more ‘unions-workers-rights-threatened’, ‘middle-class-held-down-by-rich’, ‘hispanics-kept-in-shadows-by-racist- Republicans’ themes coming up in 2012. The adult in the room Obama will explain it all and how he will bring us all together with green energy.

If memory serves me correctly (and I was trying to rearrange my stocks and bonds and considering early retirement in 2000), the recession was here before GWB was sworn in and the market bottomed out in March 2000. AND also there was no mythical Klintoon surplus.

It's time to scrap the code and go to the flat tax, or the "Fair" tax.

We're all getting pretty weary of over 40% of the people paying NO tax, and the tax we pay going to subsidize their hideous lifestyles.

The FLAT or FAIR tax would equalize things a lot better...and probably bring in much more revenue.

It is not the place of the rich to support the rest of us.

We can stop ALL the class warfare arguments of the left by only voting for candidates that support an unencumbered Balanced Budget amendment, a term limits amendment, a repeal the 16th Amendment while replacing it with a Fair Tax amendment with NO DEDUCTIONS FOR ANYTHING OTHER THAN MORTGAGE INTEREST AND CONTRIBUTIONS FOR NON POLITICAL ENTITIES. We have got to get control of Congress (both houses) with a veto proof majority to roll back 70 years of persistent creeping Socialism.

Right!
The current tax rates are courtesy of Barry, Harry, and Nancy. But don’t try to tell the ‘progressives’ different.
Considering what’s been going on, it’s a wonder that the Makers even consider getting out of bed in the morning.
I say this country was built on Tax avoidance. Let the games begin. My money’s on the most innovative. (Let the corrupt, evaders go to jail. I wrote a big check on April 18!)

Actually, everything didn’t start going bad until 2006, when the Dems took control of Congress.

Ed is like a blind pig stumbling around until it almost finds an acorn. He’s on to something here but it isn’t what he thinks it is. Bush cut taxes for the middle class in 2001 and it reinforced a problem that has been going on for several decades. Lots of benefits not just to the poor, but also to the middle class, with most of the tax burden on the rich. The middle class is not forced to choose between taxes and spending. They can have it all with the way our tax code has been amended.

2012 Obama will concentrate on tried and true progressive themes-----‘unions-workers-rights-threatened’, ‘middle-class-held-down-by-rich’, ‘hispanics-kept-in-shadows-by-racist-Republicans,’ etc.............

Except that progressive Ohaha is a huge bust-----and all of Ohaha's 2008 coalitions are falling by the wayside.

Even Oprah won't endorse him for fear that will decimate her cable network viewership. It's been said her 2008 endorsement and fund raising for him ended her 25-year talk show reign.

And who could forget the spectacle of Oprah stupidly accompanying M/M Omao and the Chicago crowd to Copenhagen for the failed Olympic bid?

Another BIG PLUS is Teddy Kennedy is not around to run defense for him---and that group will never forgive Obama for royally screwing up Carolyn becoming a Senator.

Drunk Ed knows what he's doing. He knows he's a liar, just like Randi Rhodes. They are playing to a group of haters, hoping to keep up some ratings so they don't have to get a real job. Neither cares a wit for truth, the Country, doing anything positive. They are like an arsonist, light a fire just to watch it burn, they want to burn it all down. Just pissed off, all of their theories have gone down in flames and they know it
