Stephen Spielberg has remade "Jurrasic Park" for TV. It starts in September. It is described as a tree-hugger version of a time-travel story (Earth's atmosphere becomes so polluted that people have to flee back in time 85 million years.) An updated Robinson family (per "Lost in Space") is described as the main characters.
The trailers look like outtakes from "Jurrasic Park." My question: does this thing have a chance at "something over $4M" per episode?
*shrug* I’ll watch it.
Who could resist watching tree-huggers get eaten by dinosaurs?
That's all I need to know. Scratch this off of the "to watch" list.

The show would probably be more beliveable if it was about a long duration scientific expedition (hence bring along the kids) that gets marooned unexpectedly (e.g., the regular shipments of supplies stop coming through the time portal, communications go unanswered, don't know why, etc.). Faced with the prospect of being there forever, the family begins to adapt to its changed circumstances...etc.
But taking that approach would eliminate liberal Mr. Speilberg’s opportunity to moralize and we can't have that now, can we?
My general reaction on watching the trailers is:
“Get the hook!”

I call it the "John Kerry" show since it flip-flops so much. Some of it I think is really good, some is beyond horrible. I thought the cliff hanger was beyond stupid.
It will fail.
I anticipate that it will look stunning in high definition, it is less likely to have good actors and is unlikely to have good writing.
If they manage to get everything in line and produce a show that I like, they will cancel it. It is an ongoing thing I have with the networks.
You just described "Stargate: Universe," which failed spectacularly and ended abruptly after one season too many.

The show would not get a go ahead if the financials did not make sense. Foreign markets no doubt like the show due to compelling visuals and a cast that will reach beyond traditional American characters. Foreign distribution deals are no doubt already arranged and will defray a significant portion of the production costs. Story and script quality are another matter.
Only if it has nude women.......
I kept waiting for them to kill off Lou Diamond and other Colonel. The story actually started to get good the last two episodes - they all went into suspended animation capsules and shut up - except the kid who was left alone.
The problem is it would never work...Much like the Back to the Future movies, they will change things so much when they go back in time that they will destroy the planet before they are born and everyone on the show will just dissapear “Vanished from existance” to quote Doc Brown.
