Occupy Orange County Takes Santa Ana and Finds A Republican!
The Orange County Weekly ^ | October 22, 2011 | R. Scott Moxley

Posted on 10/22/2011 6:10:58 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Just under 200 feisty protesters with Occupy Orange County marched Santa Ana streets this afternoon, chanted anti-corporate slogans and won supportive horn honks from hundreds of passing motorists.

More than two dozen uniformed law enforcement agents--in vehicles, on foot and riding horses--carefully monitored the peaceful protesters as they gathered in a park across the street from the Ronald Reagan Federal Courthouse at noon and then zigzagged down sidewalks to a branch of Chase Bank.

"Down with Chase, not the human race!" the crowd shouted under the leadership of Theo Hirsch, an outspoken local musician.

The high-energy, bandana-donning Hirsch inspired the protesters repeatedly by sparking passionate chants throughout the three-hour event. While yelling, "Power to the people; not the one percent," he seemed to cause six, armed federal protective service agents to rush over to the area and shoot menacing glares before eventually retreating.

When he wasn't using a bullhorn, Hirsch held a handmade sign: "F**k the Federal Reserve and their little b*tches on Wall Street."

Alicia Rojas, a Santa Ana artist and one of the event organizers, faced off with Burton Liao, a proud college Republican who showed up to start a counter demonstration that never materialized. Liao--a self-identified Ron Paul fan and Cal State Fullerton junior--argued that the protesters were misguided and unproductive.

While people chanted, "This is what democracy looks like, Liao told Rojas, "I'm not against liberals. But you are protesting against the corporations when you should be protesting against the government. The government is making it difficult for the corporations. The government is the problem, not the corporations."

Rojas rolled her eyes and told Liao that this "isn't a Republican or Democrat thing but about the top versus the bottom [on the economic scale.]"

Replied Liao, "The protesters would be better off learning so that they can get a job from a corporation."

Nearby, Gilda Victoria held a large poster that depicted the melding images of George W. Bush and Barack Obama.

Asked to explain, the Santa Ana woman said, "Same, Bush and Obama."

Unlike last weekend's related Irvine rally, young people dominated this one in Santa Ana, but there were also grandmothers like Marsha Russo in attendance. Russo said she was inspired to personally protest after reading news reports about the Occupy Wall Street protests.

"I agree with a lot of what those people are saying," said the retired Buena Park woman. "I lost two-thirds of my 401K because of Wall Street and so I'm really disgusted with the government's bailout of Wall Street executives. We have to now stand up for what is right."

Not far away, Hirsch prompted another chant, "Hey, hey. Ho, ho. Corporate greed has go to go!"

As Herman Cain asked...what do they want the bank to do? Come outside with a check?

Of course, they’d still need a BANK to cash it!

Alicia Rojas, a Santa Ana artist and one of the event organizers...

Oh boy. There's the problem right there. "Artists" don't make a whole lot of money unless they can sneak a government grant from somewhere. I can see why she's pissed off.

IOWs it's pure envy and Rojas is nothing more than a looter. No interest in anything but destroying others and taking for herself.

I guess it’s a good idea that there is no Tea Party to be seen at any of these occupy-ins.

Artists can make fair money too, but they have to hustle their stuff. Artists can’t sit still and wait to be discovered at Starbucks, or they’ll be waiting until they pass through the pearly gates.

another chant, "Hey, hey. Ho, ho. Corporate greed has go to go!"

Translation: "I sure wish I were as rich as those guys, but I don't want to work for it."

“Occupy Santa Ana”. Heh. And I thought “Occupy Riverside” was a joke. Really, people, “Occupy Wall Street” was stupid enough. “Occupy” the major cities was even stupider. But at least there are major corporations in those downtowns. Go occupy San Diego. Heck, even Newport Beach and Irvine have more businesses worth picketing than Santa Ana. If you’re running OWS protest marches through Santa Ana, you need to get a life.

Really...should be 'Se Occupado Santa Anna"....unless their signs were en Espanol I don't think they'd get much response from the locals.

>Those idiots protested in SANTA ANA???

I hear ya’. Most of the workers in our studio moved away from Sta Ana because it’s the “Detroit of the OC”. You have no idea how many sob stories I’ve heard from the past year how bad it is job-wise there. You can compare the same idiocy when a group of pro-illegals started marching in...Pomona.

This Alicia Rojas broad is a fool.

The top 1% have money because they work their butts off, they invest their money, and they work smart.

If Rojas would spend more time working, and more time cracking the books instead of marching through the streets like a demented idiot, she might amount to something.

And take some business courses in school, Alicia. Drop the “Angry Lesbian Bitches 101” and “White Men Suck” loser courses taught by tenured commies who couldn’t clean a restroom on the interstate without screwing it up.

I took her statement to mean that she doesn’t care what the facts or the politics of it are she just wants to see the rich brought down and her hand out for some of the loot. If so she’s more honest about what she is than the commies.

Heck, Anaheim’s already occupied: we give the kids in the public high school there free breakfast, free lunch, free daycare if they get pregnant, and will now give them money for college. Meanwhile, they never learn proper English or anything about American history or values. They are loyal to their homelands... their other homelands... even though they were born here.

I too have posted articles from OC Weekly, but please keep this in mind:

OC Weekly, a sister publication of both LA Weekly and The Village Voice, is a free, left-wing weekly paper...
