People for the American Way Identifies Photo of Westboro Demonstrators as Tea Party Members

It won't shock AT readers to learn that the Left is deceitful, but here's another piece of evidence: a fundraising letter from Ralph Neas's People for the American Way (PAW) arrived in the mail today. The outside of the envelope and the letter inside display a large photo identified as "Demonstrators at Presidential Inauguration." The signs held by these "demonstrators" read: "God Hates Obama," "Fags Love Obama," and "Hell to the Chief."

Anyone paying the slightest attention knows that signs with the word "fag" and "God hates..." most likely originate from the despicable Westboro Baptist Church, and sure enough, a Google search confirms that all these slogans are used by Fred Phelps's demented flock.

The PAW letter exhorts Americans to "Say 'No' to the Politics of Fear and Hate!" Below the photo, the letter opens: "The Republican Party has been hijacked by the Tea Party Movement and has now fully embraced Right Wing Extremism." The obvious implication is that the Westboro people in the photo are Tea Party members, those hateful terrorists who have hijacked the GOP.

Never forget that Fred Phelps (the leader of the Westboro lunatics) and his family are Democrats. Phelps has run in Democratic Party primaries five times. These included races for governor in 1990, 1994, and 1998, for Senate in the 1992, and Mayor of Topeka in 1993 and 1997. He was a delegate to the 1988 Democrat National Convention. He ran Al Gore’s campaign for president in Eastern Kansas in 1988. He was invited to the 1992 AND 1996 presidential inagural. I don’t know if they ever attended a tea party event or not - they attend a lot of events merely to protest, and it would not be a surprise if they protested at Tea Party events the same way they protest at funerals of deceased servicemen and women.

If one checks a little closer to the Westboro Baptist Church people, one will find that they are or were registered Democrats with the old man Phelps even running for office as a Democrat.

//Fred Phelps, the disbarred lawyer and Democrat activist who leads the Westboro congregation, will undoubtedly pursue some form of legal action for the way his people were thwarted in Brandon. Let him try. There isn’t a jury in Mississippi which will see things his way.

This is a template for how to handle the Westboro people. If lawsuits don’t work, other means will. Whatever it takes to keep them from harassing bereaved military families on the day their fallen loved ones are laid to rest.

UPDATE: Some of the feedback we’ve received from this piece came along the lines that it’s inappropriate to refer to Fred Phelps as a “Democrat activist.”

We stand by that characterization. If anything, it’s an understatement.

Fred Phelps ran for major office in Kansas as a Democrat no less than four times. He ran for governor on the Democrat ballot in 1990, 1994 and 1998 and for senator in 1992. Phelps received 11,000 votes, or seven percent, in 1990, he received 5,000 votes, or three percent, in 1994 and he picked up 15,000 votes, or 15 percent, in 1998. And in the senatorial contest in 1992 he garnered 49,000 votes, or 30 percent. Phelps furthermore ran as a Democrat candidate for mayor of Topeka in 1993 and 1997.

Phelps also has been closely associated with Al Gore on several occasions throughout Gore’s career – Phelps’ son Fred, Jr. was a Gore delegate at the 1988 Democrat convention and the Phelpses hosted a Gore fundraiser in Topeka that year. Phelps claims that Westboro members “ran” Gore’s 1988 campaign in Kansas.

Phelps may not fit within the typical definition of “Democrat activist” some of our readers expect – but a six-time Democrat candidate is an activist Democrat. That is quite clear, as unknown to the public as it might be.//

The left has managed to portray tea partiers as crazy people. Therefore, any crazy person who opposes Obama and the Democrats is labelled a Tea Party member, even if he has no association with the Tea Party.

I remind you again, facts and truth are absolutely irrelevant to the left. According to the left, Aryan Nations members are Tea party people. Gadhafi was a Tea Party member. The Taliban in Afghanistan are Tea party members. The left accused the lunatic who shot congresswoman Giffords of being a Tea Party member.
