As the price of gasoline soars, top Mitt Romney adviser, Harvard economist Greg Mankiw sticks to his guns and calls for a hike in gasoline taxes. In a recent blog post, Mankiw points to a WaPo column which states:
N. Gregory Mankiw, former top economic adviser to President George W. Bush and current adviser to Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, also backs a stiff gas tax increase... In a New York Times column this year, Mr. Mankiw offered a tax overhaul that might include a gas tax exceeding $2 per gallon.
A significant portion of such a tax ultimately may land on oil producers, which means it cuts back on supply and exploration and, in a feedback loop, smacks the consumer right in the wallet.
BS. The demand for gasoline is very inelastic, hence any shift in the supply curve in an attempt to pass the tax along will fall disproportionately higher on the consumer. Gees...and this guy's a Harvard Ph.D.?
Romney will not govern any differently than Obama
Companies collect taxes (from customers), that is how we always end up paying it. Do they think companies have another source of funds?
We're not called the "Stupid Party" for nothin'.

Thank you anyone who voted for Willard today...
Where do you live so I can send you a bill for gas each time I fill up if this spendthrift gets in the White House...
Don’t you worry! There’s another thread that says Barry wants LOWER prices!!
politics. start drilling domestically and tell the envirowackos to go pound salt.
Yet those "conservatives" in the Republican party desperately want Romney to be nominated....
Wow. Just WOW.
Thanks for letting us know.
and FOLLOW it with his mea culpa regarding Senator Santorum and how Rush made a grave mistake staying neutral/favoring Rick this primary season ...
and FINISH by going ALL IN for Newt Gingrich.
I get it. It’s one of those “the American people are undertaxed” arguments. It really doesn’t look that way from my side of things. It looks to me like I’m being taxed way too much by local, state, and federal goverments that probably piss away about a third of the revenues on graft and waste. So I have a suggestion for the big-shot Harvard economics professor: come up with a way to take care of government needs that doesn’t involve taking more bread from my children’s mouths or making me more a slave of the state than I already am.
We sent out a press release on just this issue about 4-5 days ago - but it did not get the traction I wanted it to. You are right, it is HUGE issue.
And yes, I am hoping Rush see’s the light on Rick “Rush is absurd” Santorum.
lets vote for Oboma !
I hope it happens. Why not just make it $5.00 instead so nobody will be driving or flying anymore except for the 1% and the military just like the turd world.
Why vote for Romney when you can vote for his twin that only has 4 years left?
