Why Conservatives Should Continue to Oppose Romney after the Nomination (Please provide input)
Bloggers & Personal ^ | 10 Apr 12 | Xzins

The basic reason Romney should be opposed by conservatives is that Romney is not a conservative. More specifically, Romney is the author of the $50 abortion, the originator of the gay marriage license, and the founder of big government-forced health care.

Those 3 are a mix of social and fiscal issues. The conclusion is that Romney is neither a fiscal conservative nor a social conservative. His tenure as governor of Massachusetts proves that point.

Now, as Romney is touted as the “etch-a-sketch” candidate who will shortly begin his tack to the left, principled conservatives will do well to begin listing their reasons for not ever supporting Mitt Romney for anything other than Citizen Mitt.

1. Abortion: Romney is the author of the $50 abortion.

2. Gay Marriage: Romney signed legislation requiring the issuing of gay marriage licenses. Romney has tried to “moderate” his position by becoming pro-gay union....big deal. He once told gay operatives that he was the gay lobby's best hope for getting their agenda into the republican party. (Look at that, too, in terms of abortion and judicial selections.)

3. RomneyCare: Sadly, Mitt thinks it's just fine to have state governments force you to buy health insurance. I suppose he finds the power to do that in the US Constitution. Oh...I remember...the place where the Constitution says “states can force the people to buy things they don't want to buy and enter into contracts they don't want to enter into.”

4. Give notice to the GOP-Establishment: It probably is very wise to shove down their throat what they are trying to shove down ours. They are not the masters of the conservative universe. Allowing them to think they are will simply encourage more of the same in the future. I'm sure the romney-bots and the romney-enablers will want their say about Romney opponents handing the election to Obama, but the manipulation by the GOP-E is what will lead to that.

5. Romney's “Scorched Earth” Campaign: Romney has divided conservatives and seriously weakened voter turnout. His strategy, liberal that he is, was to run ads via his SuperPac pigeonholing the conservative purity of his opponents. That kind of outrageous hypocrisy deserves punishment and not reward.

6. Conservative Resignation to supporting Romney appears to be surrender of conservative principle. The results of that could be far-reaching. It could mean that the republican movement is totally abandoned to the liberal establishment.

7. Judicial Appointments: "Liberty Counsel Action Vice President Matt Barber said Romney’s appointments were constitutional “living document” poster children.

“Many of Romney’s appointments were not only liberal, not only Democrats, but were radical counter-constitutionalists. How on earth can we expect that, as president, he would be any different?” Barber asked rhetorically."

8. Other reasons "Conservatives Should Continue to Oppose Romney after the Nomination" are welcome. Please post them below.

And what, might I ask, does your esteemed intelligence provide as reasoning for this position? I don’t give a damned WHO runs against Obama as long as they can beat him. ANY creature that can walk upright is a better choice than this POS. Any, that is, other than some half-wit with a WAAAAAAAGH, whiney-assed attitude like this. ‘Can’t get my way, I’ll take my ball and go home. Mommy will kiss me’ - sniff, sniff.

So many conservatives ready to sit back and watch Obama get re elected because they didn’t get the candidate they wanted.
do you seriously think any liberal would be worse than a man intent on reshaping the nation into some sharia loving communist hellhole?

I have no doubt Romney would be a victory for liberals in a sense. Do you think an Obama win would be a victory for just liberals? Its a victory for muslims. Its a victory for all our enemies today and tomorrow as he disarms us. There aare many more victories involved that i would rather not contemplate.

would simply get on board instead of mewling about how it can't be done, it could be done.

Polls prove it, too, and have proven it for years:

Conservatives Remain the Largest Ideological Group in U.S.

Overall, the nation has grown more polarized over the past decade

by Lydia SaadPRINCETON, NJ -- Political ideology in the U.S. held steady in 2011, with 40% of Americans continuing to describe their views as conservative, 35% as moderate, and 21% as liberal. This marks the third straight year that conservatives have outnumbered moderates, after more than a decade in which moderates mainly tied or outnumbered conservatives. http://www.gallup.com/poll/152021/Conservatives-Remain-Largest-Ideological-Group.aspx

If the Mitt and Obama fought over the 56% of America that is moderate to liberal, that would leave the 40% of American conservatives with a victory by plurality.

This is why united conservatives could forge a party that would spell the end of the GOP.

Ross Perot didn't formally begin running for President in 1992 until June. He also had ~40% support, beating both Bush and Clinton, and he would have retained had he not committed a number of major campaign faux pases that culminated in his dropping out of the race while claiming that the Republican Party was "planning to disrupt his daughter's wedding." Even despite getting back into the race in October and having all of that negative publicity hanging over his head, he still pulled 19% of the vote. Had he not been such a screw up in his insistence on controlling every last detail of his campaign himself (and royally messing it up), he'd likely have won.

So yes, it could be done, with a candidate who is not a wacko. Given the amount of resentment out there, and not just among self-described "conservative Republicans," a real alternative to both Romney and Obama could easily step in and have a real chance of winning.

Lets not play games. I could write in Palin and be happy but i know the result is not about me being happy but whats best for the nation. Any protest vote is tantamount to A: voting for Obama or B: staying home. Those 2 actions are interchangeable. any vote to make oneself feel good is not the vote of a conservative. Its surely not the act of a patriot. we have a man bent on destroying, fundamentally changing as he put it,us. our lives. our way of life.

God save us from the little puppy dogs of the Republican Party.

“Still sounds like you’re suggesting I vote for the demise of our republic as the alternative.”

You’re voting for the quickest demise of our republic, no matter how noble you think you are.

Thank you. I heartily concur. Our only choice is between a disaster of a Democrat or a disaster of a Republican. Let the Democrats have the disaster.

Any protest vote is tantamount to A: voting for Obama or B: staying home.

Not so. See post #105

1. The other races on the ballot. Putting conservatives in office if fairly easy at the House level, and not impossible at the state level. Divided government cures a lot of ills.

2. Post #105 proves that a conservative alternative is truly viable. One doesn't just "protest vote". One votes for a 3rd party candidate who is trying to win. That will: (1) lead to a win, or (2) show the strength of the opposition to those who otherwise would have had that conservative support had they decided "libs gone wild" was their plan for the year.

I too have seen that poll. Lets put that in context then. Since there is no time whatsoever to make a new party,to organize 40% of the electorate behind another candidate all we would be doing at this point in time is putting a man with no interests of mine in his heart back into office.
a 3rd party? I’ve wanted one since the 1970’s. By all means go ahead and start the work today for 2016. You will need that much time and more. Today? Not happening. and as i have said to you in a few posts by now i am not putting that person back in office.

Good point. There are so many things that a Republican Congress is supposed to “hinder” Obama about (which provides justification by some for keeping him in office) that it’s almost impossible to keep track. It’s not hard to look at the track record to date to see that thinking Congress would slow him down in a second term is laughable.

You're voting for the surest demise of our republic, no matter how pragmatic you think you are.

I guess you will have to mind your vote and I will mind mine. Derision from Romney supporters is not going to persuade me to change my position on this.

I’m not a Romney supporter in the least, except vs. Obama. Too bad you’re on the other team. I hope you both lose.
