Why 'illegal immigrant' is a slur
CNN ^ | July 5, 2012 | Charles Garcia

(CNN) -- Last month's Supreme Court decision in the landmark Arizona immigration case was groundbreaking for what it omitted: the words "illegal immigrants" and "illegal aliens," except when quoting other sources. The court's nonjudgmental language established a humanistic approach to our current restructuring of immigration policy.

When you label someone an "illegal alien" or "illegal immigrant" or just plain "illegal," you are effectively saying the individual, as opposed to the actions the person has taken, is unlawful. The terms imply the very existence of an unauthorized migrant in America is criminal.

In this country, there is still a presumption of innocence that requires a jury to convict someone of a crime. If you don't pay your taxes, are you an illegal? What if you get a speeding ticket? A murder conviction? No. You're still not an illegal. Even alleged terrorists and child molesters aren't labeled illegals.

By becoming judge, jury and executioner, you dehumanize the individual and generate animosity toward them. New York Times editorial writer Lawrence Downes says "illegal" is often "a code word for racial and ethnic hatred."

Well then, why not go back to the tried and true term: “wetbacks”. Like that any better all you illegal immigrants?

Justice Anthony Kennedy, writing for the majority, joined by Chief Justice John Roberts and three other justices, stated: "As a general rule, it is not a crime for a removable alien to remain present in the United States." The court also ruled that it was not a crime to seek or engage in unauthorized employment.

Removable alien... unauthorized employment?

Not a crime?

If you can get kicked out of this country for it, then it is damn sure something.

And if they are "removable" and "unauthorized" lets round them up from the job sites and get to the removing.

Chief Justice John Roberts and three other justices have clearly stated they are working without authorization and are removable.

They can call them whatever they wish. You can call them all ham sandwiches if you want, it doesn’t change reality. Illegal is Illegal.

In another development, trial lawyers are demanding that society stop calling people who commit armed robbery dangerous criminals. The lawyers claim that calling these “victims of society” criminals lowers their self-esteem and might lead to behavioral problems.

In June 2001 to December 2004, Florida Governor Jeb Bush appointed Mr. García as the only Hispanic to the seven member State Board of Education, a new government entity responsible for overseeing all education delivery systems in the state with an annual budget exceeding $15 billion. In February 2002, he was appointed by President George W. Bush to the President’s Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanic Americans, charged with developing a blueprint to close the educational gap for Hispanic children. On the Commission, he chaired its Public Awareness Committee.

García is a regular contributor to political campaigns. From 1999 to 2004 he is listed as personally contributing a total of $11,000 to various presidential and congressional candidates and Political Action Committees. He, and former wife Allison, are listed as contributing $2000 each to the 2004 campaign of George W. Bush. García was also a Bush Pioneer for the 2004 reelection campaign, raising at least $100,000 in contributions.

Garcia is on the Board of Directors of Winn-Dixie

To any liberal lurkers out there, let’s try that second sentence from another viewpoint to illustrate its absurdity:

“When you label someone an ‘illegal burglar’ or ‘illegal house-breaker’ or just plain ‘illegal,’ you are effectively saying the individual, as opposed to the actions the person has taken, is unlawful. The terms imply the very existence of an unauthorized home entry in America is criminal.”

If you really want to piss off a Mexican call him “macho man”. They go ballistic when they hear that. The truth hurts.

I thought being macho was a good thing? Usually saying a man is macho means he’s manly, strong and the like...

That is what I thought. One time I used the term in front of some Mexicans and I caught hell for it.

OK, then let’s break into his house and sees if he calls 911 and claims there is a “burglar” in his house or will he say “uninvited guest”.

Charles, I agree with you. Illegal Immigrant gives these felons too much legitimacy. They are, in fact, Illegal ALIENS, just as this country has called them ever since the got their backs wet from the Rio Grande back in Ike's day. Go Home nonAmigos. If you love these illegal aliens so much, you go with them.
