Preparedness & Household Consumable Supplies

we've slowly accumulated a stock of pretty much everything one buys at a store from dry and canned food stuffs, to other goods like storage bags, wrapping paper, soap, laundry detergent, cleaners, tooth brushes, paper products, and so on and on. We've really gone out of our way to identify everything that might be applicable, even if they are items we use only irregularly. When we run out of something, we check storage, pull out another one if we have it, and add it to the shopping list - so that when we go shopping, we are mostly replenishing storage and not stuff in current use.

Pfft. Okay, man, whatever.

Please don’t tell this all comes to an end with you turning out to be a complete loser, hanging on by some irrelevant point.

And I don't shower. I soak. In a tub, in hot water.

I also don't eat stupid crappy freeze dried food. I cook minimum 2 star (michelin scale) meals every day.

If I'm nutz, I'm ok with that.

You guys really need to expand your thinking to include the power politics of post-SHTF Amerika. It’s the big picture you should be looking at, not just the small ball of dried beans and backup generators.

***************************************************
Yardstick you seem to be a bigger doomsayer, naysayer and all around grouch than anyone else on this thread so far, talking about post-shtf Amerika. Could you answer my questions? You know just to clarify?

I believe you stated that simple preps for the things that are most likely to happen is what people should be doing something along those lines. And you seem to be calling the posters here doomsayers just for wanting to be prepared.

Yet, you say they need to expand their thinking to include power politics of post-SHTF Amerika, and that merely being prepared with food and a source of power is not enough.

That seems a little contradictory to me. It also seems to make you an even bigger doomsayer when you use terms like “post-SHTF Amerika.

However, I’d like to explore your opinion even further. So please oh omnipotent yardstick enlighten us.

What exactly will be the power politics of post-SHTF America, and how should we all be preparing?

Whether you served the cause of freedom and our country is a relevant point.

You didn't, obviously.

JRandomFreeper, I don’t know what to say to you.

Have a blessed life, or something.

Oh omnipotent Yardstick, do you know how to respond to my post and questions yet? Can’t you tell us how we should really be preparing for the big picture in “post-shtf Amerika?”

This reminded me of something that I am currently studying. It is a non-electric geek think that escaped my engineering eyes for years. Think gears, pulleys, and leverage but with water. Just something to file away in the knowledge library. Regards.

As a loyal liberty-loving FReeper, why don’t you please do us all a great big favor and avoid these threads and leave these equally loyal liberty-loving FReepers in peace. Thanks.

Because I don’t think these loyal liberty-loving Freepers are quite as loyal and liberty-loving as they make themselves out to be. I think they have a personal investment in a very bad outcome for our country.

They have accepted the premise that America is doomed and that we might as well throw in the towel and hope for a disaster to cleanse America of its sins.

While I understand this impulse, I think it is extremely misguided and defeatist, and I think it is unbecoming of this forum. I don’t think it is at all conservative except in the most depressive and defeatist sense.

That said, it’s your forum and you set the tone. I will hereby bit my tongue and avoid these sort of threads.

They are liberty-loving people. And I’ll tell you what. If we don’t soon get a handle on the Marxist/Islamofascist wannabe dictator and his dull-witted Marxist/fascist thugs like Napolitano and Holder and they are successful in building his personal civilian army as he overturns our constitution, we are going to be in for one hell of a fight. They are determined to transform America into a totalitarian state and they are well on the way. Our congress seems powerless to stop him.

I don’t disagree that their basic impulse is liberty loving and patriotic. I just see this prepper business as a corruption of that impulse. I know that Kartographer and Marcella and the rest, even though I give them grief, are good folks and have the basic patriotic orientation — but we cannot give in to a defeatist mindset. We have to be happy warriors to be effective. We can’t accept defeat. I’m afraid that this forum is on the precipice of seeing the conservative movement as doomed, and I am convinced that nothing good can come from that mindset.

I’m not giving in to anything and I’m not a defeatist. I’m urging everyone to resist what these treasonous thugs are doing to America the land we love and to never, ever give up their guns! A well armed population determined to remain free as God intended is our greatest line of defense against tyranny.

But resist how? By retreating to our hidey-hole to make some kind of irrelevant stand? By buying survival rations? We are so far from that point it’s not even funny. There are so many levels engagement available to us that are so much more relevant and effective. This kind of fantasyland avoidance of the issue is a complete distraction. It is completely ceding the relevant ground to left, who will gladly take it from us. This prepper BS would have us give it to them like candy from a baby.
