Radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh was suspended after making headlines this week with some controversial comments that have set off a firestorm. During his afternoon broadcast on Tuesday, Mr. Limbaugh, responding to a caller's question, opined about the color of the sky.
"Look, the daytime sky is blue. Countless books and poems have been written with references to the blue sky, and until recently, there wasn't much debate about this. Sure, there are people today who want to convince you that the sky is yellow, but all you have to do is walk outside on a sunny day, and you will see that the sky is, in fact, blue. I mean, it's obvious. Anyone telling you otherwise is lying to you."
Opposition groups were quick to respond. "These comments are hurtful and obviously untrue," said Pat Lohfers, chairperson of People United to Say the Sky is Yellow, an advocacy group working to gain widespread support for the yellow-sky concept. "Mr. Limbaugh should be ashamed, and we have urged radio stations nationwide to drop his program until he renounces those comments. We don't understand where this hate comes from, but it shouldn't be polluting our airways."
In response, Clear Channel's Premier Networks, which syndicates Limbaugh's weekday program, placed Mr. Limbaugh on leave pending an investigation into the comments, vowing to work with Limbaugh's critics to achieve a mutually agreeable resolution
Angela Nussex, who leads the Atlanta-based Georgians Advocating for Yellow Sky, suggested that Limbaugh should publicly apologize. "He clearly spoke on a topic about which he knows nothing," Nussex said, "and offering an apology on the air should be a minimal first step before he is allowed back. We'd really like to see him admit that the sky is, in fact, yellow, as we've known all along."
It is unclear what qualifications Mr. Limbaugh has to opine on this subject, and he could not be reached for comment.
I don’t know what planet you guys are on, but I live in LA, and the sky is definitely gray. Honestly, one of the things I like the most when I travel is enjoying a blue sky.
Excellent. Reads like a Monty Python skit.
"There are FOUR lights!"
One can only assume you work at the Department of the Obvious.
As of now the sky is black.
Is that racist?
You left out Angela Nussex.
Are these people for real?
Now THIS is rasis!!
Run the acronyms, folks.
Run the acronyms.
“I need to change my screen name. He has gone over the top this time!”
Don’t do it. If he would have made this statement in a magazine instead of on air, in response to a caller, it would have been much worse. /s/.
The P.U.S.S.Y. people are wrong. they have no case against Mr Limbaugh.
The sky is transparent.
Ask all other raindrops.
WOW! This post has everything:
With maybe just a hint of Marxism.
This post is so comprehensive and overarching, I won’t have to FReep anymore today. My to-do list thanks you.
I have every confidence that Rush will take a strong stand against this group. He will not be whipped by them.
Georgians Against Yellow Skies? I’m quite sure they’re located in midtown Atlanta.
Peachtree Mall, maybe?
“To be fair, the sky is whatever color you think it is. Who are we to judge ?”
It is sky blue pink! Dung puncher pink! Rush and Phil are both absolutely correct!
