Hillary Clinton says she and her husband aren’t truly “well off,” despite the fact that they’ve made millions.
Clinton made the comment in an interview published Saturday night in The Guardian.
The exchange touched on the recent comment she made about how she and former President Bill Clinton were “dead broke” when they left the White House in 2001—a statement many regarded as out of touch.
"But they don't see me as part of the problem," she said of voters, "because we pay ordinary income tax, unlike a lot of people who are truly well off, not to name names; and we've done it through dint of hard work," she said, laughing.
The Clintons have reportedly made $100 million since leaving the White House, The Guardian noted.
When the former secretary of State kicked off her book tour for Hard Choices earlier this month, she told ABC News’s Diane Sawyer that they were in debt 13 years ago.
"We came out of the White House not only dead broke, but in debt," Clinton said. "We had no money when we got there, and we struggled to, you know, piece together the resources for mortgages, for houses, for Chelsea's education. You know, it was not easy."
In a live interview on ABC’s “Good Morning America” the morning after it aired, Clinton clarified yet defended her remarks.
“Let me just clarify that I fully appreciate how hard life is for so many Americans today,” Clinton said. “It’s an issue that I’ve worked hard on and cared about my entire adult life.”
"Bill and I were obviously blessed. We worked hard for everything we got in our lives. We have continued to work hard. And we have been blessed the last 14 years. But I want to use the talents and resources I have to make sure people get the same chances,” she added.
Clinton is considered the Democratic frontrunner for president in 2016 if she decides to run.

“To reduce the tax pinch, the Clintons are using financial planning strategies befitting the top 1 percent of U.S. households in wealth,” Bloomberg News reported. “These moves, common among multimillionaires, will help shield some of their estate from the tax that now tops out at 40 percent of assets upon death.”

Hey lady. Get a clue. There are plenty of people across this country who work hard everyday but you and your husband are worth more than $100 million between the two of you because of your liberal elite connections and status as a former first family.
First, if you don’t think $100 million is “well off”, then you are definitely out of touch with the majority of the American people and the mere fact that you would make such a statement is an arrogant slap in the face of those people.
Second, if you think giving over-priced speeches to a bunch of adoring, ass-kissing, liberal sycophants is “hard work”, try doing what the average American does everyday just to break even. I can guarantee you that you wouldn’t cut the mustard.
