February 12 is the anniversary of the birth of the 16th - and arguably the greatest - president of these United States, Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865). Born in Kentucky and raised in Illinois, Lincoln was largely self-educated and became a country lawyer in 1836, having been elected to the state legislature two years earlier. He had one term in the U.S. Congress (1847-1849) but failed (against Stephen A. Douglas) to gain election to the Senate in 1856. Nominated by the Republican party for the presidency in 1860, he prevailed against the divided Democrats, triggering the secession of the southern states and the beginning of the Civil War. As the course of the war turned more favorably for the preservation of the Union, Lincoln was elected to a second term in 1864, but was assassinated in April 1865, only a week after the final victory.

Remember in school when we celebrated Linciln’s birthday on 2/12, and Washington’s on 2/22? Not sure, but I thing we had to combine them to create a holiday for MLK.

My beloved Ibizan Hound Minny was born this day, as well.
I saved her literally at the last moment from a kill shelter and twice, she saved my life.
She’s been gone 16 years.

There’s a reason Lincoln’s picture is often the only president hanging in government indoctrination centers (aka gummint schools).
It’s a subliminal message about defying government and crony capitalists/Wall Steeters.
Close. The Feds created Presidents Day, which now honors all POTUS’s, including Fidel & Raul Castro’s favorite toilet brush, Jimmy Carter, Slick Willie Clinton, a.k.a. DIRT-X-POTUS42, and the worst chief executive ever, The Anti-American Commie Kenyan Muslim Homo Usurper, Bathhouse Barry Obama.
That’s a valid point, same reason they hang Che on the walls too.
I don’t understand how any Constitution believing Conservatives can think that the civil war had a good outcome.
Tranny was born of the Democratic Party and nurtured by Dixiecrats and the Klan and almost every Rat president since Wilson.
