Biden Administration Quietly Raised Amount of Ethanol Required in Summer Blend Gasoline from Ten Percent to Fifteen, Three Predictable Problems Will Surface Soon
The Last Refuge ^ | June 6, 2022 | Sudance

Last Friday the Biden administration raised the mandatory amount of biofuel, specifically ethanol, that must be blended within the U.S. gasoline supply. The previous amount of 10% (summer blend) was raised to a year-round 15% (waiver) by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This is likely to lead to two sets of bigger issues, less food and higher gas prices.

♦ First issue. – The Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) is a government mandate, passed in 2005 and expanded in 2007, that requires growing volumes of biofuels to be blended into U.S. transportation fuels like gasoline and diesel every year. Approximately 40 percent of corn grown in the U.S. is used for ethanol. Raising the amount of ethanol required in gasoline will result in the need for more biofuel (corn). With farming costs and outputs already under pressure this could be problematic.

♦ Second issue – The EPA enforces the biofuel standard by requiring refineries to submit purchase credits (known as Renewable Identification Numbers, or RINs) to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proving the purchases. This enforcement requirement sets up a system where the RIN credits are bought and sold by small refineries who do not have the infrastructure to do the blending process. They purchase second-hand RIN credits from parties that blended or imported biofuels directly. This sets up a secondary income stream, a trading market for the larger oil companies, refineries and importers.

The RIN credit trading platform is similar to what we might expect to see if the ‘Carbon Trading’ scheme was ever put into place. However, now that summer biofuel requirements for blended gasoline have gone from 10% to 15%, the price of the RIN credits will likely jump. This will cost refineries billions in additional expenses,…. which will mean the cost of the gasoline from the refineries will increase,….. which will mean the cost of the gasoline at the pump will go higher.

♦ Third Issue – “Ethanol is a valuable source of octane in finished gasoline, but it is chemically different than petroleum gasoline and cannot be used in concentrations above 10 percent in small engines — like outboard boat motors, motorcycles, lawnmowers, generators or chain saws — or in any cars made before 2001. Complicating matters further, most cars on the road today still aren’t warrantied to run on gasoline with more than 10 percent ethanol. Retail stations also must have compatible infrastructure in order to sell gasoline with higher ethanol blends.” This issue is known within the industry as “The Blend Wall.”

My son could be the plaintiff in a lawsuit on this. He worked and saved his money up to buy his first car: a 98 Toyota Camry. If ethanol destroys his engine, he’s got no way to get to work, and can’t afford a newer car.

The Maverick stores in Utah have non-ethanol gas. No one in Texas does?

So this crap costs us poor folks even more money

from lowered fuel mileage

plus the extra spent for gas treatment products

to protect your engines.

District of cartels couldnt care less for its serfs.

There has to be a suit to block this before it wipes out every car made before 2001.

Democrats doing the pelosi hand rub in glee as they predict millions of cars will be off the road with destroyed engines soon and the new e-car market demand will have a great surge. This edict makes the greenies very happy and ev mfg happy along with chinee battery factories ecstatic. The poor/lower middle in the U.S. that rely on older used cars better get used to riding in bidets busses.

How will it destroy your car?

Sweet corn is what you buy in the grocery store by the ear or in the can/freezer bags.

Cow corn is what farmers grow to feed livestock. This is the type of corn also used for ethanol production.
So, diverting more corn production to use in ethanol makes feed corn more expensive. It probably has an effect on swine and cattle feed pricing.
It is not going to affect the price of milk.

Mr. GG2 buys the non ethanol gas for his chain saws etc. There is some gas station near us that sells it. We just got a generator so I guess we have to put it in that also.

which will mean the cost of the gasoline from the refineries will increase,….. which will mean the cost of the gasoline at the pump will go higher. So the refineries/oil companies are just getting greedier. (This is what will come from the Brandon admin and his followers)

There are fuel additives that you can add when you fill the tank that will protect your engine.

Corn is corn. There are varieties of corn but it breaks down to field corn and sweet corn. The sweet corn is what you buy at the grocery store. Field corn is made into products like corn chips and such. But, also, corn production is fertilizer intensive, and if a field is producing corn, it isn’t producing wheat.

Nearly every gas station around here has a non-ethanol choice, either 91 or 87 octane.

Yep, all small engines. It's fine for cars too, I think it's 93 octane, but just too pricey for normal fillups.

I, too, buy non-ethanol for my small engines to keep from having to change the carburetors.

Incidentally, whenever I sell my old used truck and replace it with another used one, I test the non-ethanol gas in it for a couple of tanks. It always improves my gas mileage just a hair vs the corn syrup version of gas, but never enough to warrant the cost difference.

15% mix is called E85. Deadly for most engines not specifically designed for flex fuels. The rubber cannot take this, and the engine temps damage the engine, and the fuel is less efficient so less gas mileage. All bad.

Intended consequences to destroy cars with ethanol. This is the green energy people wanting you to convert to EV‘s sooner than later

There are no enzymes that can change alcohol into gasoline. Sorry.

"like outboard boat motors, motorcycles, lawnmowers, generators or chain saws

I guess that means we might not be able to save our refrigerated food from those predicted bidenized power failures coming soon.
