Energy Prices: There has to be a tipping point
self | jimjohn

This is going out mainly to the truckers out there, but everyone should start thinking about this: Is there a certain point – a price per gallon if you will, where the wheels start falling off the supply chains, the economy, etc. to the point of no return?

A few weeks ago, I was talking with friends both on and offline; trying to calculate a number in which owner-operators and small fleets simply could no longer afford to operate under the current D.O.T. rules. If/When that happens, by logic, we assume one of more the following would take place:

1. Independent drivers (and small fleets) simply stop driving as they required compensation could no longer compete with other fleet drivers. Mind you, the stats say independents are only 9% of the trucking workforce. But along with the smaller fleets, they haul enough tonnage to make a major difference.

2. Work stoppage actions to force profitable compensation. Last thing we need during on-going supply chain issues.

3. Drivers are forced to ignore D.O.T. rules to maintain profitability.

4. Supply lines get limited to those that can make payment – which will have a domino effect to hurt the poorer, urban areas first, followed by suburban areas.

Without going through all the math, we came up with a number of about $7.50 a gallon for diesel. This number will fluctuate based on the local economy. If there is sudden diesel supply shortage (read: someone or something blows up another diesel refinery), that number will drop. Regardless, this number listed above we predict will set off a chain of events (with emphasis on #4).

Yes, just diesel. I’m not even talking about the price for regular unleaded. Remember, it takes diesel to get unleaded to your local gas pump. And if you find this black pill is hard to swallow, allow me to add a few elements to help it go down easier:

* expected violence upon official abortion ruling (and/or another "Summer of Love")

* full throated invasion into our southern border

* lack of fertilizer for the next harvest (read: food shortages)

* the government’s next attempt at lockdowns before November’s election

* this administration’s refusal to look at the geo-political reality here and around the world.

Now, to be clear: I see NOTHING preventing enough upheavals in the next 4-5 months to prevent a complete breakdown of society as we know it (a.k.a The Purge: When Life Imitates Art – Film at 11). That is, unless there is an abrupt and major course correction by state and local governments, as well as the people themselves. (Anyone see that on the horizon? Be honest.)

I believe more than enough folks have been ‘red pilled’. All it takes is the next fill-up at the gas station. Complaining, and merely speculating about ‘the worst is yet to come’ in non-productive, unless we are driving toward solutions.

So the question comes back to: at what number (or price tag) should we as Real Americans throw our hands up in the air and say to ourselves “It’s been real – we had a nice 246 year run”, and start implementing our own Great Reset, before it’s done for us (and to us)?

Getting us to a “point of no return” is the goal of the Democrats. It’s part of the “Great Reset.”

I always thought $5 gas and $6 diesel would be the tipping point. Yet the anecdotal evidence in Upstate South Carolina reveals truck traffic to be unabated. What gives? Is it like the quiet before the economic storm?

I’m all for a trucker’s strike / walk-out. I work with a lot of truckers in my job, and collectively, they are the backbone of the economy.

Truckers face a lot of risk, and deserve to earn a decent wage - and its the governments fault they are not.

The average price June 9th for diesel was $5.70.

Very recently I posted an article that estimated that gasoline price would increase by 33% sometime in the summer.

If we apply the same percent increase to diesel, that would be a diesel price of $7.58

I think there is a decent chance that They will force the system to breakdown, there will be violence (for many reasons) and martial law is not out of the question. I’m afraid the Fall elections may be “postponed”. Maybe for two weeks while they flatten the curve.

“* full throated invasion into our southern border”

Maybe Biden et al are trying to make America so crappy no one wants to come here.

The tipping point is when raising prices results in people no longer buying. GDP will then drop precipitously as prices go up even more. Even food becomes too expensive and then you have grocery market thefts going through the roof. Shortly thereafter, food riots will happen. Once that happens the government can’t control the situation anymore and the government will fall to the mob. There aren’t enough bullets to stop it at that point.

Hopefully this never happens. Hopefully some sort of sanity reins it all in and they do something to fix it.

In the mean time, my garden this year is about 4 times what it was last year. I’ve also started chickens for eggs and have 4 cows in my neighbor’s pastures. I have the good fortune to live in a rural area.

I think you're being optimistic.

I think the SC will overturn Roe within the next few days and the hounds of Hell will be released. Pallets of bricks will mysteriously show up in various cities across the country. Then, probably in September or early October they will be another mass shooting or two.

There is no near-term solution to the wrecked economy, so higher prices and increased shortages will get worse, so as someone said, forget 2024, I'm not sure we'll make it to November. And even if Republicans take over in November, I foresee no substantial changes. I mean, really, what can a Republican Congress do? What motivation do they have to really do anything as the legislative branch?

I am not as optimistic as you. Unless there is a spiritual revival I believe we have long passed the point of no return in this country. It's now a matter of riding things down. Not giving up or quitting, but the overwhelming injustices and the clear dual system of justice in this country has taken deep roots. Almost every level of the federal government has been completely corrupted, not the least of which is the FBI which has become the Democrat's Stasi.

Change my mind.

An economy runs on energy just like your body runs on blood. Energy inflation affects everything else, because it gets passed on. I think the tipping point will be consumers buying less because prices have gone up so much.

Then, probably in September or early October they will be another mass shooting or two every week.

There. I fixed your sentence.

There is not, never has been, and never will be, a tax or a price increase on businesses. They will pass that cost onto its customers.

The cost for diesel fuel will simply be passed onto companies using their services. The load of grapefruit that once cost $1000 to ship will now cost $1250 to ship and those that sell the grapefruit will raise the price of their produce accordingly.

Any attempt to “soak the corporations” will simply be passed onto their customers. I recently had a pallet of computer monitors delivered. The shipping cost went from $400 to $650. MY budget got hit on that one, not the trucker’s.

Trump in 2020: 'If Biden' Becomes President, You'll Pay $7 For a Gallon of Gas!: By Michael W. Chapman | March 8, 2022 | 1:53pm EST

(CNS News.com) -- During a campaign stop on Nov. 2, 2020, then-President Donald Trump touted the low gasoline prices of the time and warned that if Joe Biden became president, Americans would end up paying $7, $8, even $9 a gallon.

Trump also said that, in response to those high gas prices, the Biden administration would tell people to get rid of their cars.

"It's an incredible thing that's happened over the last few years, a lot of great things," said Trump. "And you’re paying, what, $2 a gallon for your gasoline? That’s okay."

It would be some hope if our nation was virtuous enough to have an outrage at the stolen election that is the core of all of this.
