So what is Beer Church? A message from the Director of Beer Church
Beer Church is as much an idea as it is an organization. It is based on our philosophy that people are basically good and want to help make the world a better place. The trick is to provide a way for them to do that. The horse needs to be led to the water, so to speak. Beer Church believes in finding people where they are. People like to party, socialize and generally have a good time. In our human society, beer is a conduit, or catalyst, for making that happen. So find the people where they are. Have a party that benefits something worthy.
Here is another way to look at it: Imagine if today a bell was rung in every bar around the world at 7:00 PM local time and every person drinking beer at that moment pulled a dollar out of his/her wallet. How much money would be raised in that 24 hour period? Who knows? But it would probably be enough to cure cancer. That is the ultimate example of what we believe Beer Church can accomplish. A bit of a stretch, I admit, but the concept is valid.
Beer Church is not about worshipping beer. That is a common misconception that people have when they hear the name Beer Church. We are not a bunch of Homer Simpsons. Our events are not big frat parties. These are other misconceptions that people have. Beer is good. It is part of our social makeup. We hope to instill in people a sense of social responsibility that includes drinking responsibly. Drinking can lead to some bad things. These are frequently reported and easily become a focal point for people who disapprove of alcoholic consumption. However, little is reported about the positive aspects of drinking the social interaction that it promotes, the sense of community that it can help to instill in people. Drinking can cause some bad stuff to happen. The same thing can be said about organized religion. Beer Church does not like to be compared to traditional organized religions except when considering the good things that world religions have done for humankind. I cannot think of any time in history when one nation was invaded by another, or when entire races of people were targeted for genocide, simply because of the kind of beer they drink.
So what is Beer Church? We are a loosely connected group of beer drinkers who are associated by our appreciation of beer. Christian's have their faith in God and their love of Christ as a unifying factor that organizes or congregates them into a larger group. We have beer as our unifying factor. Beer Church does not mean to offend Christians or anyone else. As long as they are working to make the world a better place, we like everyone regardless of their opinion of beer or their opinion of us. If you hate us, are offended by our existence, or for any reason dont like us, we challenge you to prove how bad we are by doing more good than we do.
As a unified association of beer drinkers our potential to affect positive social change is enormous. Be kind and giving, love one another, care about one another, and help one another. Use beer as a way to do those things. Thats what Beer Church wants to do.
So join us in our mission. Dedicate yourself to making the world a better place one beer at a time. Be nice to people. Care about your community. Dont be offensive in your love of beer. Respect other people who have something different that they believe in or love. Be responsible and use beer as a way to do good things. Thats all we ask.
