Iran signed a contract with Kuwait on 13 Dec 2003 to provide the country with drinking water for nearly 30 years, state radio reported. The water will be pumped to Kuwait through a 540-km pipeline that will be built at an estimated cost of US$ 2 billion (EUR 1.6 billion). About 210km of the pipeline will be laid on the sea bed of the Gulf, which separates the two countries. Under the agreement, Iran will supply Kuwait with 300 million m3 of water a year from Karkheh Dam.
