My Shadow

I do not like my shadow,
He's always in my way.
Whether from the street light,
Or on a sunny day.
I step and he steps with me,
It sometimes makes me trip.
I have to go where there's no light,
To give this guy the slip.
I feel like he is mocking me,
A fan of his I'm not.
I like him best around high noon,
When he is just a spot.
He never has a thing to say,
At least that part is good.
He follows me or sometimes leads,
Around the neighborhood.
I really wish he'd go sit down,
And let me be alone.
I catch him smoking pot again,
That's it he best be gone.

Bob Day

Today is Bob Day?
Well, what can I say?
I’d like to thank the Academay,
With thanks to some guys named Bob.

Who cleared the way in the wilderness,
And made it safe for guys named Fess,
And shortened their name from Robertness,
All thanks to a guy named Bob.

Now, London is a pleasant town,
Where Bobbies guard the place all round,
So travel is up and crime is down,
All thanks to a guy named Bob.

Elisabeth Dole could make a run,
So Hillary wouldn’t be number one,
And her smile would show she was having fun,
All thanks to a guy named Bob.

When I was in my Army boots,
An Officer and I were in cahoots,
Capt. Kangaroo outranked all the big galoots,
All thanks to a guy named Bob.

A tropical paradise has its charm,
With Marianne and Ginger on your arm,
And one brave soul saw they came to no harm,
All thanks to a guy named Bob.

Just one thing more before I go,
I have to thank someone that I do not know,
That my folks must have met a long time ago.
And that’s why they named me Bob!

For Now And Forever

Read:
Ezekiel 33:23-33

Receive with meekness the implanted Word, which is able to save your souls. -James 1:21

Bible In One Year: Psalm 136-138

cover Cold terror gripped the heart of a soldier as mortar rounds whistled overhead, rifles cracked, and the enemy closed in. Suddenly he felt ripping pains as a bullet tore into his chest and arm. Yet it wasn't the end for this soldier. According to an article in The New York Times, the bullet was slowed by a New Testament he was carrying in his shirt pocket. Years later, the young man still treasured the blood-stained book with the ragged hole through the middle. He believes it saved his life.

This is a nice story, but it says nothing about the life-saving spiritual help the Bible was designed to give. In Ezekiel 33, we read that the ancient Israelites used the words of the prophets to make them feel good but not to change their lives. They misused God's promises to Abraham to support their own claim to the land (v.24). They found pleasure in listening to the words of the prophet (v.30), yet the Lord said to Ezekiel, "They hear your words, but they do not do them" (v.31). The result? They came under divine judgment.

Then as now, God's Word is not to be cherished as a good-luck charm or to soothe the mind by bringing temporary relief from anxiety. It was given to be obeyed so that its help would not be only for this life-but forever. -Mart De Haan

Thy Word is a lamp to my feet,
A light to my path alway,
To guide and to save me from sin
And show me the heavenly way. -Sellers

We don't really know the Bible until we obey the Bible.
