My Dragon Fly and Me
If I could be a Dragon Fly and wing my way through the sky I would never be shy just me and my Dragon Fly!
By moonlight we ride the wind chase the comets tail for fun by day we would hide from the sun our fragile wings would come undone
On darkest nights we would use fireflies as our guide we would dip and we would glide through the heavens open wide and scatter diamonds in the night sky my Dragon Fly and me...
And we would wing past our lovers silent in the night... to kiss their face in our flight much to their surprise and delight my Dragon Fly and me in sight...
Such a view do we share away up here in the air of breezes soft through our hair my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

TOO PROUD TO WEEP

The day
you left, the gods
blacked out the sun. Enraged . . .
unbowed . . . I vowed I was too proud
to weep.
"No tears!"
I swore and sealed
my hurt inside. The pain
I dared not touch . . . the wound was much
too deep.
And so . . .
although the urge
consumes . . . I've managed thus . . .
so far . . . somehow . . . my somber vow
to keep.
But oh
the price I've paid!
When comes release? . . . Perhaps
if I could cry . . . perhaps then I
might sleep.

In honor of Old Sarge, I am re-posting one of my favorites of his poems, the the new Lair thread.
|
Sleeping Soldiers Let sleeping soldiers lie, men who, while they snore and sigh, dream about you safe and warm behind their armor and guns. Let sleeping soldiers lie, men who, as they say goodbye, will always pack their gear and go to where the danger runs. Training hard, and laughing harder, partaking of life's full larder, a soldiers' lot is all for those who think the cost is cheap. Eager hearts, whose boldness longing, with their fellowship belonging, shoulder arms to hold your freedom for such, never weep! For gladly marching, to dreadful daring, any price or burden bearing, keeping such as you in safety, loved ones wait to welcome home, Heroes' triumph, victory gallant, accolades for virtuous talent, our best reward, to see you smiling, stronger love than song or poem. ~ an original poem by JSR "Old Sarge" (c) 02/08/2004 FR Canteen |

Good evening Ms. Feather.
Spray
by Sarah Teasdale
I knew you thought of me all night,
I knew, though you were far away;
I felt your love blow over me
As if a dark wind-riven sea
Drenched me with quivering spray.
There are so many ways to love
And each way has its own delight --
Then be content to come to me
Only as spray the beating sea
Drives inland through the night.
To: StarCMC; Old Sarge
"Sleeping Soldiers" is just beautiful, thank you.
To: laurenmarlowe

Something to ponder, (with a smile)
No one believes SENIORS. . . everyone thinks they are SENILE.
An elderly couple were celebrating their sixtieth anniversary.
The couple had married as childhood sweethearts and had moved
back to their old neighborhood after they retired.
Holding hands they walked back to their old school. It was not
locked, so they entered, and found the old desk they'd shared,
where Andy had carved "I love you, Sally."
On their way back home, a bag of money fell out of an armored car,
practically landing at their feet. Sally quickly picked it up,
but not sure what to do with it, they took it home. There, she
counted the money--fifty-thousand dollars.
Andy said, "We've got to give it back." Sally said, "Finders keepers."
She put the money back in the bag and hid it in their attic.
The next day, two FBI men were canvassing the neighborhood
looking for the money, and knock on the door. "Pardon me, but
did either of you find a bag that fell out of an armored car
yesterday?" Sally said, "No."
Andy said, "She's lying. She hid it up in the attic."
Sally said, "Don't believe him, he's getting senile."
The agents turned to Andy and began to question him.
One said: "Tell us the story from the beginning."
Andy said, "Well, when Sally and I were walking home from school
yesterday.... .
"
The first FBI guy turns to his partner and says, "C'mon, we're
outta here."
To: WayzataJOHNN
LOL
I take it you immediately left after posting this story. :-) I don't believe it either. ROTFLOL!

Good evening Ms. Feather!
Mandevilla from my garden, for you Ms. Feather. Have a good evening.
To: laurenmarlowe
Good evening, ms. marlowe.
Oh my goodness, I have never seen this type of plant before. It is gorgeous.
Thank You very much.
To: bentfeather
I did have to leave, momma had dinner ready, and now I have to leave to get some hot coffee with an angel! ;^)
To: bentfeather
They are quite beautiful. Mandevilla is native to South America, and because of our climate, we can grow them here.
It is a multi-strand climbing vine that grows to 20 feet high, with the pink flowers shooting out very randomly.
I am lucky enough to have two, they are each about 10 feet high right now.
To: WayzataJOHNN
I take it your angel is not me!! LOL
To: laurenmarlowe
Mandevilla is similar to the climbing vine clematis that I have.
In early spring it sends out tendrils which can be trained, but I let it go willy nilly, more fun that way.
To: bentfeather
Exactly!! Me too, I just let mine go wherever they want!
((HUGS))!
To: bentfeather
"I take it your angel is not me!! LOL"
You are more the devil's delight. ;^)
Sweet eyes and smiling lips
a knowing wink and wicked hips.
Sultry as a summer night,
and sensually alive, oh so right!
Good girls may to my side come,
but their lips never touch rum.
Then good girls get up and go,
But bad girls stay you know.
Which will make memories to keep,
who to interesting conclusions leap?
Those who are truly most alive,
those for whom I do most strive.
I'm such a bad man at times, naughty as a way of life. ;^)
To: bentfeather
Up late tends to make for dark poems sometimes.
The Cost
Dark winds,
wander across a barren plain of late,
echoing emptiness.
Only memories,
exist where man once did,
remnants drying.
Empty world,
where only wind moves now,
the last laugh.
They killed God,
and lost everything in their hate,
as Angels wept.
Haters ruled,
separating Him from His flock,
by legal fête
All had to kowtow,
and all paid the final price,
for the few.
Dark winds,
wander across a barren plain of late,
echoing emptiness.
To: WayzataJOHNN
Good morning!!
Two very different poems to ponder this morning. The first a delight, the second a deeper tone.
I like both of them very much.
Sorry I was not in The Lair to respond.

The Glasses

They came in my Christmas stocking.
Two.
Short, thick, square.
What cute drinking glasses
Washed and waiting on the shelf!
I grabbed one by the top,
Filled it with water,
Then sipped.
Like drool,
the water dripped
from the sides to the floor.
What a strange glass!
Through practice,
I learned to drink from the corner.
An excellent little spout!
Happy birthday to you!
they sang.
Mom, why are these in your cabinet?
my daughter asks before she cuts my cake.
She holds the two glasses
Like stop signs in her hands.
I answer with the traditional What?
Why are the votive candle holders in the cabinet?
she asks as I step into the kitchen.
Her serious eyes roll upward.
Her smile grows to laughter,
And she tell her siblings,
Mom thought the votive holders were drinking glasses!
How was I to know?
No candles came with them.
No labels, no instructions.
They were cute little glasses while they lasted.

Thanks Sam, great poem today. Good tunes, too.

"The Glasses"
You mean you can't drink from them?????
Oh oh, another Trike faux pas, (sigh)!
To: WayzataJOHNN
LOL No, it's another kind of fire!!
To: bentfeather
Well, its not like I've ever drank hot wax out of them or anything like that!
To: WayzataJOHNN
To: bentfeather
"You sure?? LOL"
Well, not completely, there has been a time or two when wine may have clouded my judgement as much as my walking, therefore I can't say with real certainty that I haven't.
To: WayzataJOHNN
LOL. Well, it was a great poem - full of fun.

Good evening Miss Feather . . . a change of pace for me, I'm trying my hand at other forms of poetry, I'm not not sure what you'd call this . . . but . . . it's definitely not haiku . . . ;-)
