Poetry and Potpourri began September 22, 2003 and became Amy's Place November 24, 2003.

Thank you all for your participation. Thank you for making Amy's Place a friendly place to meet.

It is with regret that I am no longer able to keep Amy's Place open. You do realize that I am not old ..........
I'm TIRED. :)

After Friday, the thread will be available but I will not be posting a Daily Welcome Graphic and Poem. I encourage you to continue to use the thread to post your poems and to chat with friends.

I've been checking the old threads for links to the newer threads. This has been a trip down memory lane. I will be reposting many posts between now and Friday evening.

Special thanks to St.Louie1; Billie and MamaBear for the wonderful graphics. Thank you to the many poets who unselfishly provided poems.

I look forward to seeing you on the threads. Take care and have a super summer, a fabulous fall, a wonderful winter and a special spring.

My Friend, The Carrot
by Ron Lunde

Look,
Pink's for noses, like my cat's,
Green's for leaves, or maybe parrots,
Brown's for cocoa or fruit bats,
And Orange's just the thing for carrots.

Bite,
A clean snap, molars chew,
Vegetable of hearty satisfaction.
Not like okra, ooh what goo,
Where teeth don't get no traction.

Chew,
Sometimes though, a bit of grit
Hit's filling, and you'll hurt
You'll grimace then, and out you'll spit,
A bit of carrot dirt.

Sorry I haven't been around much. I hope you are all doing well. I also hope that today's contribution makes up for my absence:

JimRob

He is a stoic man
Blessed with a heart of gold,
Complete with a vision of honor
Perceived by some as bold.

He followed a higher calling
To defend our inalienable rights,
Guaranteed by the Constitution.
For this he has vowed to fight.

Proud to be American,
Conservatism’s friend,
He has overcome great obstacles.
On his dedication we depend.

He has given us a place
To gather and to share
Laughter, tears, prayers and plans,
Immeasurable proof that we care.

He has grown a family
Tens of thousands strong.
All of us brought together
To right a myriad of wrongs.

Thank you Jim for giving us
This place that we call “home.”
God Bless Free Republic.
Long may its name be known.

Tess went to her bedroom and pulled a glass jelly jar from its hiding place in the closet. She poured all the change out on the floor and counted it carefully. Three times, even. The total had to be exactly perfect. No chance here for mistakes. Carefully placing the coins back in the jar and twisting on the cap, she slipped out the back door and made her way 6 blocks to Rexall's Drug Store with the big red Indian Chief sign above the door. She waited patiently for the pharmacist to give her some attention but he was too busy at this moment.
Tess twisted her feet to make a scuffing noise.

Nothing.

She cleared her throat with the most disgusting sound she could muster.

No good.

Finally she took a quarter from her jar and banged it on the glass counter. That did it!

"And what do you want?" the pharmacist asked in an annoyed tone of voice. "I'm talking to my brother from Chicago whom I haven't seen in ages," he said without waiting for a reply to his question.

"Well, I want to talk to you about my brother," Tess answered back in the same annoyed tone. "He's really, really sick ... and I want to buy a miracle.

"I beg your pardon?" said the pharmacist.

"His name is Andrew and he has something bad growing inside his head and my Daddy says only a miracle can save him now. So how much does a miracle cost?

"We don't sell miracles here, little girl. I'm sorry but I can't help you," the pharmacist said, softening a little.

"Listen, I have the money to pay for it. If it isn't enough, I will get the rest. Just tell me how much it costs."

The pharmacist's brother was a well dressed man. He Stooped down and asked the little girl, "What kind of a miracle does your brother need?"

"I don't know," Tess replied with her eyes welling up. "I just know he's really sick and Mommy says he needs an operation. But my Daddy can't pay for it, so I want to use my money".

"How much do you have?" asked the man from Chicago.

"One dollar and eleven cents," Tess answered barely audibly. "And it's all the money I have, but I can get some more if I need to.

"Well, what a coincidence," smiled the man. "A dollar and eleven cents-the exact price of a miracle for little brothers."

He took her money in one hand and with the other hand he grasped her mitten and said, "Take me to where you live. I want to see your brother and meet your parents.

Let's see if I have the kind of miracle you need."

That well dressed man was Dr. Carlton Armstrong, a surgeon, specializing in neuro-surgery. The operation was completed without charge and it wasn't long until Andrew was home again and doing well. Mom and Dad were happily talking about the chain of events that had led them to this place. "That surgery," her Mom whispered. "was a real miracle. I wonder how much it would have cost?"

Tess smiled. She knew exactly how much a miracle cost. one dollar and eleven cents ...... plus the faith of a little child.

A miracle is not the suspension of natural law, but the operation of a higher law...... (A TRUE STORY)

I know you'll keep the ball moving! Here it goes. Throw it back to someone else who means something to you!

God bless you!!!

For Score

Twenty years from now, they will have practiced this,
And their young men will have no clue about their “wedded bliss.”
They’ll think it is a fairy land where they may slay a dragon,
We’ll hope it is a lucky star to which they hitch their wagon.

These ladies will be ready and they’ll know their role to play,
The guy thinks he has done enough to show up on that day.
They will be guided hand-in-hand along the primrose path,
The lads will learn that one plus one leads not to marriage math.

It’s just as well they don’t know all the treats they have in store.
I’m not sure they could face it if they really knew the score.
“Here there be dragons” may be true, but not the ones they think,
They’ll have to face some monsters underneath the kitchen sink.

Dashboard Dining

Read:
Revelation 3:14-22

If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. —Revelation 3:20

Bible In One Year: Hosea 11-14

cover The term "dashboard dining" has come to signify the growing practice of eating while driving to save a little time. Popular freeway fare includes yogurt in squeeze tubes, soup in heat-and-sip containers, and small cookies that fit in cup holders. One US consumer products analyst says that people increasingly want food items that can be eaten quickly and easily while on the road. In some cultures, a leisurely meal at a table is becoming an endangered practice.

This eat-and-run mentality can also invade our spiritual thinking. Do we set aside daily time for an unhurried meeting with Jesus? Is our Bible reading and prayer time rushed or relaxed?

The risen Christ told the lukewarm church of Laodicea, "Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me" (Revelation 3:20). When we open our hearts in surrender to the Lord, He promises to come in for a meal, not a snack. His offer to dine with us holds the promise of a nourishing meal with relaxed conversation, not a quick hello and goodbye.

While modern culture worships efficiency and speed, God invites us to slow down and sit down for a spiritual feast of fellowship with Him. —David McCasland

We need to set aside the time
To read God's Word and pray,
And listen for the Spirit's voice
To guide us in His way. —Sper

Time is a friend when you use it to strengthen your friendship with Jesus.

Hi, Amy:
RESPONSIBILITIES
I was just a kitten, don't you see?
When a big calloused hand reached down and rescued me
It pulled me from the rubble and we met eye-to eye
A dark haired human, who said "How you doin', lil guy?"

He slipped inside his warm sweaty vest
While pops and loud bangs echoed outside my nest
It felt so safe, I don't know why
As he took me back to the tent to meet the guys
>BR>
Hands, feet and faces as far as I could see
While I was fed cool water and mushed up MREs
So many laughs and smiles so wide
I was just a kitten, but it tickled my pride

I was slipped in a boot for the Sergeant's Inspection
They were hiding me from his ominous rejection
Until the super high sound before a mortar attack
When we ran to the shelter and crouched back to back

I was petted, passed around and kneaded as the bombs went off
And then I felt strange hands. Heard an unfamiliar cough
I looked up as the Sergeant looked down
His smile was as white and big as a clown's

So, now I'm a Mascot, all vetted and primed
I even have a family to live with when we've all done our time
The Great Cat Up Above certainly looked out for me
In return, I have a litter of guys to get home, don't you see?
