My Dragon Fly and Me
If I could be a Dragon Fly and wing my way through the sky I would never be shy just me and my Dragon Fly!
By moonlight we ride the wind chase the comets tail for fun by day we would hide from the sun our fragile wings would come undone
On darkest nights we would use fireflies as our guide we would dip and we would glide through the heavens open wide and scatter diamonds in the night sky my Dragon Fly and me...
And we would wing past our lovers silent in the night... to kiss their face in our flight much to their surprise and delight my Dragon Fly and me in sight...
Such a view do we share away up here in the air of breezes soft through our hair my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

Lover by Dawn
As dawn breaks soft through the windows above my bed,
I watch her sleep and lay silent in wonder at the art that is she.
Her skin is as soft as silk, yet filled with the heat of life and passion fed,
I caress her with gentle joy at the mystery that only she can be.
Her eyes are closed in deepest sleep, the peace of her fills me sweet,
and I am humbled by her grace in soft repose, a living canvas here.
I watch her mouth slip into little smiles so playful yet so fleet,
as dreams take her to places only she will ever know I fear.
She breaths with subtle rise and fall of those delicate perfect breasts,
and I marvel at the sheen of light upon the softest of golden downy hair.
Shadows play upon her skin in slow dance to mother sun as she rests,
glowing with perfection, living art of solar caresses upon skin oh so bare.
Tangled limbs in lazy grace that flow from her last passions race,
with wisps of sheet to add texture to perfection, she is Loves work in display.
Her hair a halo of color and golden luster to catch the eye and let time fly a pace,
no picture drawn by hand of man can express her beauty as morning does say.

Walter de la Mare
SLEEP Men all, and birds, and creeping beasts,
When the dark of night is deep,
From the moving wonder of their lives
Commit themselves to sleep.
Without a thought, or fear, they shut
The narrow gates of sense;
Heedless and quiet, in slumber turn
Their strength to impotence.
The transient strangeness of the earth
Their spirits no more see:
Within a silent gloom withdrawn,
They slumber in secrecy.
Two worlds they have--a globe forgot,
Wheeling from dark to light;
And all the enchanted realm of dream
That burgeons out of night.

WWII and Waiting
She sits on the lone park bench,
in that little corner park,
with its five flowerbeds,
and a time-stained statue there.
She loves this place for its air,
and the peace is what shed of said,
for here, life is not so stark,
and she escapes lifes sudden wrench.
The breeze winds among the flowers scents,
lifes perfume so sweet in her dreams,
and she remembers him from so long ago,
and their time together so swiftly gone.
They took him from her, that long ago dawn,
on a beach, those hard faced German foes,
and she woke that sad day with screams,
and only time made her later pain relent.
That black edge telegram bore away her world,
and fifty years later it still hurt in the dark corners,
her life held him as a memory like a dark jewel,
since that June in 44 it all changed before her eyes.
Since then, she can but let history flow by to sighs,
wondering why leaders of nations are such a fool,
making so many young women such sad mourners,
as deep and bitter pain in each heart is unfurled.
The neighborhood honored their hero in stone,
and set him guard over a small corner park,
adding five small flowerbeds to add color,
and a bench for retrospection and tired souls.
Here one might rest from historys bitter tolls,
or pay a price far more costly then simply dollars,
and only in peace may a tattered heart say hark,
and perhaps heal enough to grant others to atone.
She sits on the lone park bench,
in that little corner park,
with its five flowerbeds,
and a time-stained statue there.
She loves this place for its air,
and the peace is what shed of said,
for here, life is not so stark,
and she escapes lifes sudden wrench.

A lost love is sad, but in a way, she still has him, and will for all her life. He watches over her, shares flowers with her, and is there across time, at her side. There is something far greater then any sadness can touch, and that is true love.

The photographs eyes see,
a hopeless hope kept whole,
in papered anguished plea,
the screams of New York's soul.
Walls of silent cries
in reams of black and white
as mutely each denies
tomorrows' empty night
Through focused camera lens,
a thousand pictures burned
in minds of untold men,
the souls that won't return.
Has anybody seen....?

Bus Stop

Lights are burning
In quiet rooms
Where lives go on
Resembling ours.
The quiet lives
That follow us
These lives we lead
But do not own
Stand in the rain
So quietly
When we are gone,
So quietly . . .
And the last bus
Comes letting dark
Umbrellas out
Black flowers, black flowers.
And lives go on.
And lives go on
Like sudden lights
At street corners
Or like the lights
In quiet rooms
Left on for hours,
Burning, burning.

You are right feather. There are yellow-shafted and red-shafted Flickers. We have them both but I've never seen a yellow one. Of course it's easier to see the colors when their wings are spread. At the feeder you can usually only see the identifying color in their tail. Here's a good shot of a yellow shafted Northern Flicker.

William Shakespeare
SONNET I From fairest creatures we desire increase,
That thereby beauty's rose might never die,
But as the riper should by time decease,
His tender heir might bear his memory:
But thou contracted to thine own bright eyes,
Making a famine where abundance lies,
Thy self thy foe, to thy sweet self too cruel:
Thou that art now the world's fresh ornament,
And only herald to the gaudy spring,
Within thine own bud buriest thy content,
And, tender churl, mak'st waste in niggarding:
Pity the world, or else this glutton be,
To eat the world's due, by the grave and thee.
