ATLANTA -- Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick believes Virginia Tech overreacted when the school dismissed his brother, Marcus, from the football team after he stomped on an opposing player during the Gator Bowl.
Marcus Vick later claimed the incident was accidental and that he apologized to Louisville's Elvis Dumervil, but the All-American defensive end denied receiving an apology.
Michael Vick, who led Virginia Tech to the 1999 national title game as a redshirt freshman, was at the Gator Bowl and saw his brother step on Dumervil.
"Sometimes your emotions just take over," Michael Vick said during halftime Wednesday night of the Atlanta Hawks' game against the Cleveland Cavaliers. "I know Marcus. He's not the kind of kid that's going to do something like that on purpose. That's just something he's got to live with, and now it's just time to move on."
Marcus Vick's Gator Bowl antics came after he received a speeding ticket on Dec. 17 in Hampton, Va., for driving with a suspended license.
He had been under a "zero tolerance" policy at Virginia Tech following his suspension from the university for the 2004 season after several legal problems.
Earlier this month, just three days after being kicked off the football team, Vick was arrested and charged with pulling a gun on three teenagers in Virginia.

The guy is a thug and he's trouble. There is not enough time between now and the draft for him to grow up.
Vick was removed from the team for the ticket and the stomping incident, not for either one. He had one last shot and he blew it. VT was more than patient with Marcus.
Sounds like he has a promising career with the Raiders.
*ducking*
...so then he was catered to,propped up,and he failed to improve and NOW the university has problems...should have been dealt with back in "04"
Yes, I lost all respect for Beamer by his continued pampering and catering to this thug. But, in hindsight, it does seem that Va. Tech has been a dirty team for several years now.
I wonder how much more patience Atlanta fans are going to have with Michael Vick.
The elder Vick's mouth is slowly making its way into Terrell Owens territory. Oh yeah, his on-the-field production isn't exactly living up to the hype either.
It occurs to me that "forgiveness" is when a victim says, "You did bad things to me -- but don't beat yourself up about it anymore. You can move on. It's OK."
Nowadays perpetrators handle it differently: "Yeah, I did bad things. Who the **** cares? Move on already!"
...so we can expect him to scream "RACISM!!" and then claim that he was "only trying to save the athletic programs at Virginia Tech".
WWWD - (What Would Woody Do?)
Catered??? They kicked him off the team for a year. He only came back after jumping through a bunch of hoops that Beamer put up. No one thought he would come back because of the conditions. But he did so Beamer kept his promise.
""I know Marcus. He's not the kind of kid that's going to do something like that on purpose. "
And yet...he's the kid that DID do it on purpose. I'm confused.
Yea. It's not like Marcus gave some girl herpes while using a false name like Joe Canada.
Yup. I don't think anyone (including the Raiders :-) will touch him.
A certain Vince Young is about to make the Vick's look like amateurs on the field.
I've always supported VT (except when they play FSU) and been very impressed with Beamer. That all changed watching the ACC championship. The Tech players were nasty (how do you get 2 personal fouls when the other team is taking a knee??) and Beamer was a cry baby.
yes catered to...and why should there have been any promises,or hoops for that matter, are we saying that all of a sudden college life was too difficult? Pulling a gun on someone is the usual? You think that was the first time he held a gun?. I forget...why was he holding a gun on someone? Robbery?
He didn't pull a gun on anyone while he was a VT so the point is moot.
I doubt that. Running QB's have a short life span against real defenses. VY will play good until he tries one of his fancy "scrambles" one time to many and Joey Porter, Willy McGinest, Roy Williams, Urlacher, or someone of that caliber knocks him into yesterday. The bosses will tell him to stop running and he is only an above avergae passer and Polomalu, Vasher, Asante Samuels and others will cure that.

- January 2006-Leads Virginia Tech to a 35-24 win over Louisville in Gator Bowl. In the game, he stomped on the left calf of All-American defensive end Elvis Dumervil, the NCAA leader in sacks. Claimed the incident was accidental and that he apologized to Dumervil, who denied ever receiving apology
- January 2006-Kicked off team at Virginia Tech for legal trouble (driving with a suspended license in December) and unsportsmanlike conduct in Gator Bowl
A reporter caught up with Marcus just hours after he had been kicked off the team by Virginia Tech President Charles Steger. Staying classless as usual, Marcus said, "It's not a big deal. I'll just move on to the next level, baby." Good call, Marc. Stay true to thyself-veritas, baby. Can anybody say Maurice Clarett? Vick may not fizzle as quickly as Clarett did, but the two do share the similarity of having a good ol' time by pulling guns on people in public places.
I rest my case
