Yeah. As a straight white male with kids, I'll never have the political or marketing impact as a gay male.
It's a fact, but it doesn't feel so good....
I'm tellin' ya: it is weird to watch a commercial on TV and realize: "Ohhhh, that's for people who prefer a different kind of sex than I do...."
So if we assume you are right, does the "inclusive" part disturb you? Would it cause you to not buy a Lexus assuming you liked the car?

I think you may be wrong about that. Look at the vast amount of advertising to heterosexual men, white and black. ANd for "families", for kids, for housewives and women who cook, clean, etc.
Gay commericials or commercials designed to appeal to gay men are not that common. Unless you include all the fashion, hair commercials etc.
Not anymore. In the 90's a Lexus may have been just a Toyota with leather and a sunroof. But the differences between the two brands are now more significant.

I am not a big "stats"person.My evidence is more anecdotal,living in the Bay Area all these years.Many executives and well paid professionals are gay and many of the homebuyers of rather expensive houses around here are ga also.
Wait a minute; if the 'gay' commercials are supposed to appeal to me too, why don't these ads appeal to them?
Do you think beer commercials with guys and chicks are as weird to gays as commercials with gays guys are to me?
If not, why appeal to the 5% while making 95% go 'ick'?

Maybe the 95% doesn't go ick, doesn't get the ambiguity or really doesn't care about who targets whom in advertising.
I think male commercials about trucks and fishing and such stuff are deadly dull.
I mute all commercials except the cool geico ones with that cute lizard so I don't know about other people. But if this thread is an example, most don't care.
Ididn't see the commercial. But short hair and pants isn't particularly ugly. And besides, they want the car noticed, not hot babes.
I don't see it either.

My son in law loved his Honda CRV until I told him it was a "chick car". I cannot wait to tell my other son in law, his mini cooper is a gay and lesbian car!!!
Go visit a married guys house, go to the den (that being the only room in a married man's house that he has total control over the docor), look at the dominant color, that's probably his favorite color. Of course you could always punt, most guys like woodtones, especially dark woods, or you could go with the predominant color of his favorite sports team. And actually I don't recall either demonstrating knowledge of the other's favorite color in the commercial, you're making that up.
The commercials ran a million times during the football games on Fox. They aren't gay, and only a gay obsessed weirdo would think they are. Of course I've read your posts, you don't think they're gay either, you're just screwing with people... which frankly is a little gay ;)
Perhaps that is it. There are so many things to get enraged about that commercials seem pretty low priority to me.

I swear since the election we have had more and more of these fringe threads. They make many posters look downright weird and looney. I have wondered if agents provoteur are here. Really.
So I guess when you and you're oddly effeminate neighbor just happen to be out mooning over a car with a bow on it and he remarks:
"Well, it just happens to be in 'somebody's' favorite color..."
and you respond:
"Well, 'somebody' has something to do in the garage!"
I should think there's nothing odd here?
Of course the "somebody" in the commercial is the SPEAKER not the guy he's speaking to.
Odd sure, it's commercial speak, which tends to be odd. But it ISN'T gay. Unless you go out of your way to deliberate mangle the meaning of every single sentence in the commercial. And if you're going to go that far out of your way to force something to be gay then that makes everything gay. But really it makes nothing gay, it just makes you a person who puts way too much effort into deciding things are gay.
