Fascinating. I put in a bunch of egregiously self-centered answers, and it generated this:
I am:
H.G. Wells
The first major literary talent to make himself at home in the science fiction field, greatly expanding its popularity.

Stapledon wrote so long ago that it was even before my time. His specialty was very large scale stories, written in prose dense as Christmas fruitcake, whose characters were entire civilizations.

Great. I'm unknown and tedious.

My longest poem is four pages.

My shortest book is a couple hundred ... just think what you're missing.

I *liked* Maureen, except the infidelity parts. I was only 17 when I read the books and that seriously bothered me at the time. (Heck, I'm 36 and that still bothers me.)

Apparently I'm E.E. "Doc" Smith. Never heard of him. Wikipedia to the rescue!

BTW-I noticed that quite a few of got this guy. Interesting. Wonder if it was the test or just people who frequent FreeRepublic.

I'm Robert Heinlein... but then already I knew that, considering him to be my philosophical role model.

I've heard of Smith but don't think I've ever read anything he wrote. I don't go THAT far back. :)

It's Full spectrum Space Opera... the Lensman series, Triplanetary, the Skylark of Valeron series... all fun stuff based on no science at all.

I am:
E.E. "Doc" Smith
The inventor of space opera.  His purple space war tales remain well-read generations later.

Beginning with technological action stories and progressing to epics with religious overtones, this take-no-prisoners writer racked up some huge sales numbers.

Wasn't it more like "progressing to epics with sexual overtones, undertones, and midtones"?

Better RAH than Al Gore (if Earth in the Balance doesn't qualify as SF, I don't know what does).

Given its total lack of science, I would put it in the fantasy genre.
