An Unknown Planet Orbits in the Outer Solar System
Great Neck Record (Anton Community Newspapers) ^ | April 13, 2007 | Julian Kane

Posted on 08/05/2007 6:22:36 PM PDT by SunkenCiv

A theory is hereby proposed that an unknown mega-massive planet has, for billions of years, been orbiting at 77.2 AU from the sun -- within a 44 AU-wide, virtually empty Great Void that surrounds the Kuiper Belt (One AU = 93 million miles, the mean Earth-Sun distance). The Void is postulated to have been formed by strong gravitational attraction of the unknown planet having removed all CKBOs (Classical Kuiper Belt Objects) that had existed previously in the vicinity of the massive planet's huge orbit... The 77.2 AU distance from the sun of the proposed unknown planet is derived from a formula and numerical progression conceived by Johann Titius in 1766 and first published by Johann Bode in 1772... Neptune not matching any Bode's Law projected position could be due to that planet having shifted its original orbit from a different position to its present one -- as is theorized by many astronomers. Pluto, discovered in 1930 by Clyde Tombaugh, was found to be approximately at the mean AU distance where Bode's Law indicated a planet beyond Uranus. In addition, the unknown massive planet projected to exist in the Great Void correlates fairly well with the 77.2 AU distance that Bode's Law proposes for a planet beyond Pluto... The existence of the new unknown planet (which I have named Muriel), cannot be proved until it is located and verified by astronomers. I have given the name Bode to the planet that formerly orbited between Mars and Jupiter until it exploded billions of years ago and broke up into Asteroid Belt fragments.

The Original Solar System
by Tom Van Flandern
Meta Research Bulletin, Vol. 6 p. 17
Using a Titius-Bode law for planetary spacing in its simplest form (where each planet has double the period of the previous one), we infer the existence of twelve original major planets, of which half remain today. Two short-lived gas giant planets may be responsible for the "late heavy bombardment" episode in the early solar system, and for building up the mass of Jupiter... Evolution of the planets would typically proceed via tides and drag toward the maximum-stability Titius-Bode-Law configuration, wherein each planet has a circular, co-planar orbit with double the orbital period of the next planet in. Once that was achieved, further orbital evolution would cease. All the major features of the planetary system can apparently be derived from the process just outlined, although it is different in important ways from the standard solar nebula picture.

I saw a tinyurl link to this story in an article in Nexus magazine, this evening at the bookstore. That mag is flakier than I remembered. Anyway, here 't'is.

I asked about Bode’s Law when they discovered Xena, was it?
The response was that the first few planets lined up with Bode’s Law was just due to a coincidence.

Definitely flakey. Mercury is actually a moon of Venus, our moon was captured from a planet between Earth and Mars, and Pluto is a moon of Neptune.

here’s a link to an old-style topic; the slowing of the deep-space probes was probably best explained as a consequence of a venting of something on the craft, I forget the details, please resort to a web search for more.

That may have been me, but in any case, that is my view. :') If the planetary masses were uniformly smaller (or larger) the farther out one went, then there could be some kind of stable and uniform distribution (1,2,3,4, or 1,2,4,8, or whatever) of the planets. But there isn't. The so-called Kuiper Cliff is viewed as suggestive of such a planet as JK writes about. However, his 77+ AU primordial world seems a bit unlikely:
Planet X
by David Jewitt
What this means is that a planet of Earth's mass could exist undetected if it were more than a few 100 AU away, and even a Jupiter (300 Earth mass planet) could exist at distances only slightly greater. The sun could have a companion brown dwarf or even a star if far enough away! It's a nice thought but it will be very tough to do anything about it unless we are lucky. The Pan STARRS telescope now under development in Hawaii will provide the best constraints in the forseeable future. Will we get lucky? Stay tuned to find out.
Since it hasn't been detected, it would have to be A) really dark, B) really far out (the gap would then be a consequence of something further out), C)really far out of the ecliptic, D) moving in retrograde, or E) no longer there.

John B. Murray and John Matese were on record in 1999 (and Matese at least ever since) as saying there is a large undiscovered trans-Neptunian body. The X-Planets keyword and blog topic have much more about all these.

They’re clearing gaps in the Kuiper Belt that Americans wouldn’t clear.

TVF’s holds the view that the “Face on Mars” is actually evidence for a former intelligent species there. It’s just an unremarkable natural formation. However, his view that Pluto is an escaped Moon of Neptune somewhat antedates his EPH, and he doesn’t think that the Moon is a captured former satellite of an exploded planet — his view is that the Moon was born of the Earth as a consequence of overspin as the heavier stuff sank to the core of the proto-Earth.

I think the name Algore would be more appropriate for this proposed planet:

A) It is presumed to be quite massive.
B) It belongs in the Great Void.
C) Given its distance from the Sun, it also is in desperate
need for Global Warming to be true.
