I've never seen so many vanities on FR. Ever. And most by newbies, who perhaps don't understand what FR is meant to be.
FR has ceased to be a place to evaluate the published word, and has degenerated into a sophomoric chatroom.
Jim -- can you please provide guidance on what you'd like to see FR become? Can you let us know your thoughts on vanities, and explain how you'll enforce your policy regarding vanities?
I personally feel that if the ratio of vanities to discussion of the published word continues to increase, FR will become a common chatroom for high school kids.

A vanity about the abuse of vanities? You are not the first to do this - I don’t know the link to the first vanity post complaining about all the vanities. I think it happened back in 2000 or 2001, when I was a lurker.
First one ever, with the goal of reining them in.

It’s pretty hard to “evaluate the published word” without expressing some kind of opinion. What are we supposed to evaluate, spelling and grammar?

I apologize. You are right. I am wrong. Just venting. It has been a long election and I have never been so involved or done so much online research and tried to inform so many people. The MSM was not doing it’s job. I think that is was the hardest pill for me to swollow. When you look at someone and you say the name “Ayers” or talk about his possible birth in Kenya and they look at you like you like your own something it’s kind of a lonely feeling. I’m dissapointed in myself and most of the American people. I’m sorry and it won’t happen again. Sorry if I offended anyone. Heck, I even got upset at my mom. She voted for Obama. She is a die hard democrat. I guess she deserves a phone call.
You’ve been here long enough to know that vanities have changed the very nature of FR. That’s my concern — that what has distinguished FR is going out the door....
But, heah, it’s the day after a full on Marxist sophomore was elected to the White House. A lot of young conservatives are in shock. Let ‘em vent for a day or two..
The admin posted an awesome thread a few weeks ago that perfectly clarified FR’s policy regarding vanities. I tried to find it for you, but don’t remember the title. If the admin could give us the link to it again, I’d really appreciate it.
And, yes, I so agree with you. The vanity posts have been out of control for awhile, and it’s getting worse.
Seems the "General/Chat" forum was created to facilitate vanities and "sophomoric" chats. It's pretty easy to block them out, and see FR the way you want to see it.
IIRC, it was a sophomoric chat on FR that lead to the exposure of the forged CBS documents.
Drill down into any of the published words, cut and pasted or excerpted here, and you are at a vanity post.
That's my 2 cents on your anti-vanity vanity post.
