A Dowling High School teacher has been arrested for allegedly having a sexual relationship with one of her students. Twenty-seven-year-old Erin Marie Rohwer has been charged with sexual exploitation by a school employee.
The student she's accused of have a relationship with, is an 18-year-old male. Rohwer was arrested at her home Monday night. She was taken to the West Des Moines police station, where she posted a $5,000 bond and was released.

What is it that I’m missing here. The guy is 18 years old. What is the legal age of consent in Iowa, 35? Why are the police getting involved? I can see improper conduct between teacher and student, but shouldn’t that be between the school and the teacher? Somebody help me here.
It is an abuse-of-government-power thing. You know, like a President schtupping a white house intern.
Still not the most disturbing perp I’ve ever seen. There was a woman in Vero Beach, Florida who was hooking up with a early-teen boy for a few years who looked like a female version of Stephen Root as Milton in “Office Space”.
How is this different than what Bill Clinton did?
Some states do not permit sex between a student and a teacher, even if that student is 18 and legally an adult. It’s all about power and the fact that someone in authority (a teacher or an administrator) can have an adverse influence over a student — “You either have sex with me or I’ll fail you.”

I think Monica was older than 18 and working — not someone in high school trying to get a diploma.
This is ridiculous. The chick is 27 and the guy is 18? If he were 17 I wouldn’t have a problem with this. The fact that he’s an adult— this is outrageous.
The only issue ought to be that she was in an authority position so maybe she should lose her job. But to get the courts involved I think is just overkill.
