Should a Soldier serve if he doesn't believe the president is legitimate?

Yes, a Soldier takes an oath to serve the nation and President Obama was duly elected. 1st Lt. Easterling is just trying to get publicity and he should be court martialed.

If a Soldier in good conscience does not believe the president is constitutionally eligible to serve, he should not execute his duties and is right to protest the president's orders.

Easterling should continue to honor the dignity of his men by executing his orders as given. He should pursue other avenues to challenge the legitimacy of the president

Many of the same people who elected Obama in 2008 spent the 'sixties & early 'seventies trying to convince me not to follow orders. They seem to be running the country today.
If I'd still been in, I would have refused Kosovo/FRY and taken the consequences.
Since SCOTUS has determined that no one else in the USA has standing to question our supremely secretive first bozo, maybe they'll have to admit that national defense gives it a bit more weight..?

I'm fine with turn about in this instance and I hope the Lt. isn't simply steamrolled.

Yes, the oath is to protect and defend the Constitiution, not the Present of the US.

I’m mostly bothered by the total absence of any concern for the duty of a president to the soldiers he commands.

The soldier should serve with the same rules as does the President. Would the Army, OSI, or CID, accept Obama’s birth records?

You’d have to be willing to stand a courtmartial & (probably) be convicted.

Yes, a Soldier takes an oath to serve the nation and President Obama was duly elected.

Well hold up a minute......
I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.”

The FIRST thing that the soldier is swearing to is to support and defend the United States Constitution. At this point NO ONE knows the truth of Barack Obams birth status as it relates to the US Constitution. So things are not a clearcut or black and white as they should be....

Go out to Arlington Cemetery and one will hear American patriots rolling in their graves at the national disgrace that is the White House and the US Congress today. Liberal’s thumbing their noses at their sacrifice all the while destroying this nation.

“things are not a clearcut”

True, and o-bozo could correct it in 30 seconds. Why won’t he?

As noted upthread, the first part of the oath is to support and defend the Constitution. Perhaps our military should provide an armed escort for Obama to get a certified copy of his original birth certificate. Why are he and 'chelle sucking up to the military so hard? [And yes, that was quite the play on words, wasn't it ! ]

I especially liked Attorney Mathew B. Tully's [of the Washington, D.C.-based firm Tully Rinckey PLLC] comment at the end: ""And on TV last night I saw the chief of staff of the Army salute President Obama, so there are a lot of people who believe he is the president," Tully said.

Yet one can't help, with all the innuendo of threats Tully throws around in this article, but wonder whether Tully is part of BO's certifigate legal team.

1st Lt. Scott R. Easterling apparently didn't get the message:

Exactly, and God knows there is a target-rich environment of domestic enemies of the Constitution.

Soldiers, Sailors, Marines and Airmen ARE not political. We serve the Republic. We serve and defend the Constitution and the United States, regardless of who or what sits in the Oval Office.

I served under Nixon and Carter...

I swore to uphold the Constitution of the United States and to obey those in command over me all the wayh to the top ...the Commander-in-Chief...

Both Nixon and cater were born in the United States to US citizen parents...

They were Americans, over the age of 35 and I guess they fulfilled the 14 year residency thingy...

I didnt vote for either...

I was not yet an American citizen when Nixon ran for re election...

And I refused to vote for Democrat Jimmy Carter when I was...

I was never faced with this unthinkable travesty...

Who woulda thunk ????

Thanks for the ping Albion. First, I have not read the comments on the thread so may be repeating.

The soldiers take an oath to the nation. If we all recall, just awhile back there was talk that Obama was going to change that and have the Military pledge its oath to the President!!

Haven't heard more on that.
