A research study showed that playing first-person shooters like Unreal Tournament 2004 and Call of Duty 2 improves vision: In the latest study to address the impact of video games on game players, researchers at the University of Rochester and Tel Aviv University have found that action-oriented video games can improve players' vision.
The findings, reported in the March 29 issue of Nature, indicate that action games offer players the chance to improve their contrast perception by as much as 58%.

Yes, but it also destroys your distance vision. Between gaming and my career I’m losing the ability to focus much beyond about 30 feet, something I expect to get worse in the coming years.

Interesting. My nearsightedness is so bad, without corrective lenses, I wouldn't be able to see anything on a monitor.
Therefore, I can reassure myself that focusing on a monitor 24 inches away is actually pushing my eyes to focus well beyond their natural limits.

That’s fortunate, ‘cause I heard that that OTHER really popular online activity can lead to blindness.

That’s called old age. What makes you think video games has anything to do with it?

Yes, all day, every day. Regarding age... I’m not there yet. Maybe genetically, but I don’t think so.

You and me both. I just had to get glasses. Fortunately when we get even older the natural farsightedness that comes with age will counter act some of that.

Old age causes far sightedness, not near. Usually... YMMV
