Posted on 02/11/2010 10:09:01 AM PST by wizard1961

Would a forum to invite newbies to ask questions help increase participation?

Thanks for your suggestions, hope you enjoy your stay here. The place works fine as is.

Visitors and lurkers can see all about the forum without having their hands held. It IS user friendly. Just read for a while, you’ll catch on.

"I’ve been on the internet & in forums since 1993. I develop software. I work with users."

If you've got something to sell, sell it to the guys who own the place - Jim Robinson and John Robinson. Their screen names are their real names.

(If they happen to be reading this, personally I think this is the easiest site of its type to use - "Don't fix what aint broke!")

See, this post PROVES that your computer DOES have caps, you just choose not to use them.

“Much regards oh, seeker of something, I hope you find it.”

Astute, and well said. Actually, your entire post was well thoght out.

FR is very cool & very different. I’ve visited before & just joined a week or so ago. Especially after the whole GLANN BECK appeance & book plug... I think we could leverage recent events & take this to a whole new level.

Of course, the owner & the FR community would have to want that. Either way, though, I’d like that.... and this is a forum so I feel pretty free to express myself.

I appreciate your thoughts - thanks

BTW, Welcome to FR, n00b. There are better ways to suggest changes than irritating the natives.

I dunno, the class of ‘98 is pretty badass.

LOL, I was lurking then and, yes, the class of '98 is pretty badass (they're the reason I became a FReeper...OK,OK, I'm kissing a$$ now, LOL) The class of '00 isn't that bad either! ;)

we have been through this a thousand times and we cannot have this conversation without humblegunner, the erudite, whose panties get into a twist when one doesn’t use proper capitalization. but then we’d have to tear him away from his self-congratulatory thread on the unmasking of debra medina where he is accepting kudos and floral bouquets for calling that one correctly : )

Exactly! All we would get with avatars and a "friends setting" is a new group of harpies.

“Doesn’t he remind you of the new employee, just graduated from college, who shows up at his first staff meeting and tries to tell the CEO all the things he “should” be doing to make the company better?”

True dat.

“BTW, Welcome to FR, n00b. There are better ways to suggest changes than irritating the natives.”

Oh yeah!?!

Oh YEAH!?!?

Well, then, NAME ONE already!

I lurked for 5 months because I didn't feel I had anything especially brilliant to add to the forum in 98. Still don't really. Gotta laugh at the thought of a noob telling that gang (especially including Jim) how to operate back then.

If you have something to say in reply to what I wrote, why not say it in open forum - or is there something in that PM you do not wish posted?
