What are you doing to prepare?

Posted on 04/02/2010 5:05:17 PM PDT by Indy Pendance

Are you truly independent? Do you have the skills? Can you hunt, grow a garden, can food, sew-knit, live off the land? Are you ready? Do you possess the "lost" skills? Our family is ready. In obama's words, "bring it on". Once the economy collapses, I'll be here longer than the liberals and their pampered lives.

Road barricades and set up a neighborhood watch, around the clock.

Something else to consider . . .

In addition to putting away items we will need we have taken the additional precaution making our home as safe as possible for us and what we have accumulated for our survival. I don't want to shoot someone but I will if I have to.

After the 2005 Hurricane Rita, we took the additional step of making our own Marguard (polycarbonate) coverings for our windows and storm doors. It will keep out persons trying to break into your house and you won't have to put up and take down plywood in the event of a hurricane (We live on the Texas Coast).

We got the chance for Hurricane Ike to test them in September, 2008 and they worked wonderfully.

We also had the misfortune of locking ourselves out of our home. We had to call a locksmith to try to get in. It took him over 3 hours of trying to get in until we finally gave him permission to destroy the storm door, which he had to do with a large drill and another couple of hours. He said that it was the hardest house he had ever tried to get into.

Just something to consider for where ever you decide to make your place to ride it out.

Also, wanted to know if anyone has considered making an alcohol still to provide gas for automobiles and for gas generators. There are converters for autos and for generators and instructions for how to do this on the internet.

I think we’re better off going on the offensive rather then discuss how we will hide.

We’ve been doing similar things.

We’ll make it, and do just fine.

Thanks for that, I’ve heard it is possible, if one is careful about the age of apples, placement and such. I just don’t know enough to give a warning that would be coherent about it, lol. I’ve just been told not to do it as a general rule, put them in a barrel, or store them elsewhere. Maybe it’s something to look into. (Looking for another copy of “Back to Basics”...)

Could you provide some construction detail on those covers?

A paragraph and a close up picture would probably do it.

You can still buy the crank/peddle Singer machines; they still sell them everywhere in the world where reliable electricity doesn’t exist.

There are currently somewhere between 650-1100 people per square mile where I live. If the SHTF, I’m inclined to think fairly soon that number would go down to the 40-50 range. Max. Truly frightening.

There are 1.4 people per sq mile where I live. A population increase under disaster circumstances would be frowned upon.

even if you have to wash clothes outside), dish soap, & tons of batteries.

I’ve encouraged my children to buy extra canned goods each time they grocery shop, not sure they listen.

On the matter of soap, do you know how to make home made soap?
My mother use to make it when I was a child. All I can remember was the Lye, and ashes from the wood burning stove saved all winter.
My neighbor, who makes his own fuel has told me Lye is hard to purchase, gotta ck. into this, he use s’s Lye in processing his fuel manufacturing. Every thing he owns is powered by bio-diesel , fuel for home, car’s, lawn mower, etc. .

I commend you.

Now, where did you say that farm was?
