American Minute for April 11th:
"Houston, we've had a problem" were the words sent from Apollo 13, which was launched for the moon APRIL 11, 1970.
Mission control identified that an oxygen tank had exploded, irreparably damaging the craft.
Special prayer services were held at the Chicago Board of Trade, at St. Peter's Basilica by the Pope, at the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem and reported in The New York Times.
Even the U.S. Senate adopted a resolution urging prayer.
In sub-zero temperature, the crew pieced together an oxygen filter, jump-charged the command module batteries, and manually steered the ship to land in the ocean near a raging hurricane.
On April 19, 1970, President Nixon spoke at Kawaiahao Church, the oldest Christian Church in Hawaii: "When we learned of the safe return of our astronauts, I asked that the Nation observe a National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving today...
This event reminded us that in these days of growing materialism, deep down there is still a great religious faith in this Nation."
Nixon concluded: "I think more people prayed last week than perhaps have prayed in many years in this country...We pray for the assistance of God when...faced with...great potential tragedy."
"Houston, we have a problem."
I remember that time but do not remember President Nixon's words or call for prayer.
What a miracle God wrought in response to the prayers of so many at that time of danger.
How much we needed to read this to remind ourselves that when we get on our knees and pray, God hears and answers those prayers! He is faithful and true!
What a wonderful American Minute William Federer has brought to us today.
Come and see today’s American Minute.
How we need every one of these that William Federer posts each day! (I apologize that I have missed some days in posting this because each one has a very pertinent message for THAT day!)
(Of course everyone can go on over to americanminute.com and see his daily post there if I fail to get it put up here at FR).
Richard Nixon was quite a remarkable President - I learned more about THAT fact this morning - only to see this American Minute bring out another amazing quality and action by President Nixon....who truly loved GOD and our Country!
Thanks for that link but what are we looking at there? My eyes are no too good - print is very small - what is in the picture?
(Is this a joke or for real?)
Everyone remembers “”Houston, we have a problem,” but I didn’t remember that President Nixon called for a National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving!
I love this thread and looking forward to it!!!
The shot was taken from lunar orbit by the LROC system on board the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO), equipped with the kind of unprecedented sensitivity that made it possible to image the Apollo astronaut's foot prints for the first time in forty years.

The successful launch of Apollo 13, forty years ago today.
"We were going to a place called Fra Mauro and it was about in the center of the moon," Lovell told the rapt teenagers. "It was going to be different than the first two landings because they landed in the (flat areas) ... but now they wanted us to land in the hills and the highlands." Instead, NASA's third planned moon landing turned into a life-or-death struggle to return to Earth after an oxygen tank exploded and the crew lost its oxygen supply and electrical power. "We were in sort of deep trouble," Lovell told the students, whom he encouraged Wednesday to pursue science even if it meant reaching beyond their high school classes. As a young boy growing up in Milwaukee, Lovell said he consumed all the information he could about astronomy, physics and engineering. His wife, Marilyn, who said she met him in high school, remembered sitting with his mother on their porch watching him try to set off homemade rockets in a nearby lot. "We would both say, 'He's crazy, this is insane,'" said Marilyn Lovell, laughing. "But, he just kept at it."
Captain Jim Lovell, the commander of Apollo 13, spoke at Adler Planetarium about the mission, which went from near disaster to unbelievable rescue. Lovell kicked off the planetarium's month long "Shoot for the Moon" celebration. He told the story to students from the city's Air Force Academy High School. "About 200,000 miles out as you might expect we had that explosion. And right away we didn't know what the situation was but as it turned out we had an oxygen tank that blew up," said Capt. Lovell. The explosion lead to what many call NASA's greatest hour. The spacecraft had lost two of its three oxygen tanks and electrical power but somehow mission control had the astronauts jerry rig their command and lunar modules for a heart stopping ride home. Four days later they landed safely and the world sighed in relief.
Thank you for the Pings, Freedom!
Thanks for the ping!
Thanks for the great added info!
Good - I enjoy posting it. William Federer is a new national treasure!
Oh - wow. Thanks, then!!!
Oh - had forgotten - so Jack Swigart became a Congressman? Was he a good one?
I was just not paying attention in those days....
You’re welcome for the ping.
Yesterday morning I was watching TCT.TV and John Hagee came on with a special program in which he hosted the creator of a new 90 minute documentary called “Against All Odds”.
It is about God’s intervention in the creation and preservation of modern Israel.
I knew some of what this film is about - but not all that it encompasses, not by a long shot. Neither did Pastor Hagee who is one of the world’s leading Christian experts on the affairs and events surrounding Israel because of his role as a scholar and preacher (prophet.
Anyway, JHM.org is the place you can go to order this DVD. I plan to order it.
But one of the stories recounted by the maker of this film on yesterday’s program is about President Nixon’s role in the war - 1973.
I was so very young then and did not know what was going on in the world.
But, Richard Nixon was the first President I was able to vote for - twice - and have never regretted that vote despite all the trashing that has been done of him down through the years.
More and more of Richard Nixon’s unique role in our history and in the history of the world - and with this documentary - his role in the preservation of the nation of Israel.
I will retell what I saw on the John Hagee program as best I can but we all need to get this DVD, “Against All Odds”...to get the full correct story:
During the 1973 Israeli War (was this the Yom Kippur War?), things were not going well for Israel at all. And despite pleading over and over and over again with the US State Department, because of Henry Kissinger, who, though Jewish, hated Israel - Golda Meier received NO offers from the US to help her nation which stood on the brink of extinction.
In the early morning of the day when it was clear that without urgent and massive help, Israel would be defeated in that war, Golda Meier called President Nixon directly, bypassing the Kissinger block to her pleas for help.
(Golda Meier was so desperate, she had even considered suicide when it was almost certain Israel would be defeated).
She pleaded with President Nixon for America’s help.
Nixon was in the throes of the impeachment actions against him. He barely had any power left as President according to the news media. He was on his way out. And things were very precarious already for him and how things would eventually turn out in that matter.
However, his mother had been a devoted Quaker lady who read the Bible all the time and who read the Old Testament stories to Richard all during his growing up years. One day, his mother pulled him to her side and told Richard that she saw that he would have a time come in his life during which he would have the opportunity to save God’s nation of Israel! When Golda Meir told Nixon of the plight of her nation, he remembered his mother’s “prophecy” about him - and, despite what might happen to him politically, he told her and others that he knew that THIS MOMENT was the reason he had become President and, indeed, was the REASON for HIS VERY LIFE!
He decided no matter what cost to him personally, he would fulfill his “destiny” and do what God had called him to do and what his mother had seen he would do even back when he was a little child.
John Hagee’s brother was in the US Military at that time. He reported that instantly, the word went out to the US Military to give Israel WHATEVER THEY NEEDED, WHATEVER THEY ASKED FOR, WHATEVER OUR NATION’S MILITARY COULD GIVE THEM.
Within 24 hrs from that call and Richard Nixon’s decision, massive military assistance from the U.S. had reached Israel - enough to stop the pending certain defeat for her and to ensure Israel’s continuation by God’s miraculous intervention on her behalf - again.
In thinking back about that “impeachment” process against Richard Nixon - which I always thought was bogus to begin with - and in which Hillary Clinton took an active role - I had always thought Nixon was hated and run out of office because of his stand against Communism. That stand was, no doubt, part of the reason for Nixon’s “persecution.”
Now, I believe we know the “rest of the story.” Now we know that satan hated Nixon because he knew that Nixon would help save the nation of Israel. So, the effort to destroy President Nixon was a satanic plan to prevent him from saving Israel in that war.
But, thanks be to God, as we have seen over and over and over again - He is in total control of all that concerns Israel - and all that concerns our own nation!
NONE OF SATAN’S ATTACKS SHALL SUCCEED AGAINST EITHER OF OUR NATIONS!
Richard Nixon I am sure received a “well done, good and faithful servant” when he entered heaven and rejoined his beloved wife Pat.
(Pass the word about this little tidbit, if you want to do so - and maybe I will do a post about this “Against All Odds” project.
EVERY American needs to see this DVD / documentary. I hope it will be in the theaters and be broadcast on television as soon as possible - and of course - inside Israel itself.
I believe that President Nixon was, in spite of his faults, another President who was DESTROYED by the Evil Triumvirate of the Left,The Media, and Academia.
They managed to succeed with him, and then they upped the ante to destroy George W. Bush in the same manner.
My theory is that President Bush did not have the fatal flaw in his personality that Nixon had, and therefore “they” were never able to destroy him like they did Mr. Nixon.
Mr. Bush Always Walked Humbly before his God, and loved America more than he loved being president, and therein lies the difference.
RIP, Mr. Nixon.
Oh how we MISS YOU, President Bush!
Swigert died about eight weeks after the election, before he was sworn in.
THX THX.
I liked Nixon, too. Played for him in Navy boot camp drum and bugel corps stint at a football game in San Diego. PRESSURE! LOL.
However, he was complicit toward globalist aims as his quote in the tagline linked quotes indicate.
Praise God!!!
