Primate Fossil More Than 11 Million Years Old Discovered [Spain]

Catalan researchers have discovered in the rubbish dump of Can Mata in the Valles-Penedes basin (Catalonia) a new species of Pliopithecus primate, considered an extinct family of primitive Catarrhini primates (or "Old World monkeys"). The fragments of jaw and molars found in this large site demonstrate that Pliopithecus canmatensis belongs to this group, which includes the first Catarrhini that dispersed from Africa to Eurasia.

Named Pliopithecus canmatensis, in honour of the place they were discovered in Catalonia, the new fossil species sheds light on the evolution of the superfamily of the Pliopithecoidea, primates that include various genera of basal Catarrhini, a group that diverged before the separation of the two current superfamilies of the group: the cercopithecoids (Old World monkeys) and the hominoids (anthromorphs and humans); and which prospered in Eurasia during the Early and Late Miocene (between 23.5 and 5.3 million years ago)...

According to the conclusions of the study, the new species belongs to the subfamily of the pliopithecines, which could have originated from an ancestor called the dionsisopithecine in Asia, from where they would have dispersed into Europe at the end of the Early Miocene (some 15 million years ago).

These discoveries are interesting, but I have a problem with ‘more than a 11 million years old’. I do not believe our dating methods are that good.

I believe this creation to be about 6,000 years old. I also believe there was an earlier creation. I make no presumptions about when that creation began, or when it ended. As I said above, I do not have a problem with ‘11 million years’, only with ‘dating’. I also do not believe this to be an early human ancestor.

Seems like every other day there are new “discoveries.”

I wonder why there are no better “living links” between apes and man. There is a wide gap between man and apes sou you would think there would be better “living links” if these apes were evolving towards man. The living links are also missing.

If macro evolution were true, it seems like you would have a lot of species that would be much closer to the development of man. What happened to all the apes evolving towards men? I guess all the apes just stopped evolving? Maybe they’ll explain that for me?

It takes a lot of faith to totally buy into evolution theories.

One version of “old Earth” creationism is that humans were created last, even fairly recently, such as 6000 years ago, Garden of Eden, as in Genesis, but that there were earlier creations still walking around. Support for that has been found in the OT itself, things like the reference to Cain finding a wife from the land of Nod. There are also those who accept the Edenic origin as referring to the actual ancestry of the Hebrews, one line of Abraham’s ancestors, and later the begats, which appears in Matthew, and ends with, “Thus there were fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to Christ.” Thus, humans were created all over, basically simultaneously, with the Adam and Eve experiment being one of a kind that didn’t work out as hoped.

We’re entering summer in the n hemisphere, but clearly it’s still spring (and brrr, by the way). Our spring and fall are the two dry seasons in the tropics, and our summer and winter are the two rainy seasons in the tropics. A lot of the digs (both paleontological and archaeological) are only practical for two or three months a year, then the hard work of analyzing the field records takes some time. There will be a long dry spell, then a flurry of publication, and it is analogous I suppose to the wet-dry cycle of the tropics. :’)
