ALEXANDRIA, Egypt (AP) -- Plunging into the waters off Alexandria Tuesday, divers explored the submerged ruins of a palace and temple complex from which Cleopatra ruled, swimming over heaps of limestone blocks hammered into the sea by earthquakes and tsunamis more than 1,600 years ago.

The international team is painstakingly excavating one of the richest underwater archaeological sites in the world and retrieving stunning artifacts from the last dynasty to rule over ancient Egypt before the Roman Empire annexed it in 30 B.C.

Global warming caused the glaciers to melt and Cleopatra’s castle made of sand went into the sea...

I hope the exhibition comes to Denver. Would be a neat IMAX show too.

The underwater collection has been on tour in Europe and begins its U.S. tour at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia on June 5th. I'm not sure what other cities the exhibit will be going to. Here's a link to the exhibit:

Franklin Institute

I also bought Franck Goddio's book a few years ago. Here's the link if anyone's interested:

"It's as it was when it sank," said raf Abdel-Raouf of Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquitieso is part of the team.

Can't be very important or impressive; Zahi Hawass isn't there to get his picture taken with the stuff. Probably not a mummy or pyramid in the whole batch.

If it comes to Denver, I know 4 (2 drivers & 2 spenders) who will be there. One day to get there, and spend (See's Candy; Penzey's Spices...) money; one day to see the exhibit & drive back.

Marriot Breaks; Buca di Beppo $20-off coupon; I see huge *Rewards Points* adding up on the card!
