S.A.N.D. ... Summertime, and the living is ... sandy.
Sand gets in the carpet,
Sand gets in your shoes.
Fight to keep the sand out,
I guarantee youll lose.
The toddlers in the sandbox,
Teenagers at the beach,
It even gets down in my shorts,
Where its rude to even reach.
Where does all the sand come from?
How did we get so much?
It is a longish story,
But it has a pleasant touch.
Find a grain of sand somewhere,
You neednt look too far.
There may be some left in your shoe,
Theres more out by the car.
Hold that little grain of sand,
Where you can see it close.
Im going to explain exactly,
How we got this healthy dose.
Youll see it sparkle as it turns,
Reflecting gleams of light,
But theres a lighter side as well,
If youll hear my fancy flight.
Each single grain of sand is more.
Its silicon dioxide, Si and then two Os,
Three million billion molecules,
And heres what they compose.
The silicon has fourteen parts,
That are quite positive,
Theyre mated up with neutral ones,
Which has some peace to give.
Twenty-eight bits of whichness,
All mixed up in a what,
And circled round with wonderment,
Thats tied up in a knot.
The Os that hang around it,
Are not just airy moons,
Each has eight bits of fire within,
And eight water balloons.
Sixteen pieces more then,
Of whatness in a where.
And not just in the sand but its,
One fifth of all our air.
And out there in the water,
Nine-tenths of all of that,
Though you may get it in your nose,
Its not for sneezing at.
Every one of these small things,
Was made so long ago,
We think they are forever,
But I must tell you no.
God put these things together,
A blessing is in each.
If you want to count your blessings,
You can start down at the beach.

Happy Thursday, Conor.
Thank you for sharing the graphics of Beautiful Ireland. Seeing these images makes me sad that it is one of many, many places that I’ve never been.
Hey ... there are still about 15 of our states that I haven’t seen. That has long been one of my goals. At this point I plan to visit them via the Internet. :)
Wishing you a beautiful, sunny Thursday.

A Worry List July 1, 2010
I was worrying about a few things as I sat in my car under a shade tree at lunchtime. Then a robin, with a fat worm dangling from its mouth, landed near my door and looked up at me. The robin was a vivid reminder to me of Jesus words in Matthew 6:25-26, Do not worry about your life . . . . Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?
Years ago, in an article in the Denver Seminary magazine Focal Point, Paul Borden gave some helpful suggestions for worriers:
Start a worry list. Write down what youre worried about. The bills. Your job. Your children or grandchildren. Your health. The future.
Turn your worry list into a prayer list. Ask the Lord to work in those situations youre concerned about. Pray specifically for your needs and depend on Him.
Turn your prayer list into an action list. If you have any insight that theres something you can do about your cares, do it. As we turn our worries into prayer and action, Borden says, Paralyzing anxiety can be replaced by concern for the responsibilities of life.
Why not start your list right now?
Dont fret about the future
Or be consumed by cares;
Instead take all your worries
And turn them into prayers. Sper
What you have made a matter of prayer should cease to be a matter of care.

I’ll bet I could drop one whole stanza from that poem and no one would ever notice or complain.
Besides that, it seems to involve big numbers. Anybody got a calculator?

Good Morning MEG!
The older we get the more precious those memories! I can still see our family trying to make it up the steep hill to the summer cabin at Big Bear Lake. We had the car so loaded down and with 6 children barely made it up that steep climb to our summer fun. Oh I miss those days, outhouse and all!!

LOL..We did have indoor plumbing...but it was a postage stamp bathroom. I usually took a friend and her 3 kids down for long visits..Husbands came on the weekend...
I was so busy..but we required rests and reading in the afternoon so we could get a break from water skiing the kids when they got older...from watching them every minute around the water when they were younger.
It was such a great change ..I loved it.

Thats a lovely, lovely graphic and darling poem! I remember when the kids were small and we were gathering everything to go back to our rental and the kids would be whining with sand in their pants! We were tired and felt like whining, too! LOL!

Thank you, Polly! I use that a lot 'cause its a favorite of mine. I may send you one when I get back...LOL!! Last week I cried at the beauty shop. My car broke down on me and I had to have it towed to the shop.
I had a lot to happen in the weeks before that and I guess that topped it off and I just cried. Crying may not help a thing but sometimes it just comes on anyway! I got the car fixed, it was the alternator.
My son called the shop who had it and suggested he thought it may be the alternator. He didn't want them to think that they could just do anything to my car. He was very nice to the gentleman but it pays to have a man to talk to the shop. At the same time, 2 huge trees had fallen in my yard....sometimes its one thing after another, we all know that! Guess I was at the breaking point!! I'm fine now....the Lord stepped in and brought me through. I will shut up now or I'll be late! LOL!!!

I’ve never spent much time at the beach. We have been taking Marissa to Avila Beach every fall. She loves the beach; hubby and junior love the ocean and visiting the local wineries. Me?? I just enjoy getting away for a few days. :)

Happy July. Hard to imagine that the year is half over. I’m anxious for November. Praying that I am not disappointed again.
Our temps have cooled down. Thank God. Hope it is not headed your way. The 108 was miserable. Seemed to have hit us without warning.

Bearing The Name July 2, 2010
Hans Geiger, Marie Curie, Rudolf Diesel, Samuel Morse, and Louis Braille share something in common. They all invented or discovered something significant that bears their name. Their names, along with many others, appear in the Encyclopedia Britannicas Greatest Inventions, a list of 325 innovations that have had profound effects on human life.
We who follow Christ bear His name. In Lukes record of the early church, he said: The disciples were first called Christians in Antioch (Acts 11:26). Later, Peter urged the early believers not to be ashamed of suffering as a Christian (1 Peter 4:16). The term Christian, once directed at Jesus followers in scorn, was embraced by them as a badge of honor, a mark of allegiance to Him.
E. M. Blaiklock, former Chair of Classics at the University of Auckland, wrote that in the first century the term Christian had a certain appropriateness, for it implied loyalty and acceptance of a person, and that person, the Messiah (Christ). . . . The true modern use of the word follows the same tradition. . . . The Christian is one who accepts, with all its implications, the lordship of Jesus Christ.
As followers of Christ today, we gladly bear His name as our Savior, Lord, and Friend.
Just what do Christians look like?
What sets their lives apart?
Theyre ordinary people
Who love God from the heart. D. De Haan
The disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.
Acts 11:26
