Why would you favor a child over others not on merit but because of who’s daughter she is?
Pretty sure it was Nina who claimed around the time of the Clarence Thomas hearings that she had been harassed at a previous job. Claimed she either left because of it or because she had filed a complaint. Liberal columnist Al Hunt was familiar with the situation, made it an “Outrage of the Week” because she had actually been let go due to plagiarism.
Maybe telling an outright lie,impugning the ethics of a prior employer, fall within NPR’s ethical guidelines.

Totenberg has charged that she was the victim of sexual harassment at the Observer. She said "I had a boss who made passes at me repeatedly," but has not named that person.[5] She was fired from that paper for plagiarism in 1972 regarding a profile she wrote of then-soon-to-be Speaker Tip O'Neill which included, without attribution, quotes from members of Congress that had previously appeared in The Washington Post. Such plagiarism has been called "one of the cardinal sins of journalism from which reporters can never recover their credibility",[6] but other reporters have defended her, saying the practice of using quotes in this manner was common journalistic practice in the 1970s.[4][7] Totenberg also links her dismissal to the sexual harassment case, saying it made her "unpopular with her superiors".[8] In 1995, Totenberg told the Columbia Journalism Review, "I have a strong feeling that a young reporter is entitled to one mistake and to have the holy bejeezus scared out of her to never do it again."[9]
The poor girl is already being punished by her parents.Can you honestly imagine having those bums as your mother and father?
For a journalist, this seems like a smart move as the girl presumably has lot’s of influential family contacts who might be potential sources.

Kael is frequently quoted as having said, in the wake of Richard Nixon’s landslide victory in the 1972 presidential election, that she “couldn’t believe Nixon had won”, since no one she knew had voted for him. The quote is sometimes cited by conservatives (such as Bernard Goldberg, in his book Bias), as an example of the alleged cluelessness and insularity of the liberal elite. There is, in fact, no record of Kael stating or writing this exact sentiment. The story most likely originated in a December 28, 1972 New York Times article on a lecture Kael gave at the Modern Language Association, in which the newspaper quoted her as saying, “I live in a rather special world. I only know one person who voted for Nixon. Where they are I don’t know. They’re outside my ken. But sometimes when I’m in a theater I can feel them.”[45]
Way, way back during the Bork hearings, one of the women of NPR did a hard-hitting fact-finding report about the judge’s video rentals. I don’t know which one - Mara, Nina, or Cokie. I sure wish I had made a recording of that program.
