National Public Radio reporter Nina Totenberg -- legendary (or infamous) for championing Anita Hill's unsubstantiated sexual harassment charges against Clarence Thomas, and then yawning at all harassment claims against Bill Clinton -- is hiring the daughter of liberal Democrat presidential candidate John Edwards as a summer intern...

Historical reference. NPR standards are clear now and they have nothing to do with journalistic integrity.

Why would you punish the child because of her parents? Seems to me that would be a liberal tactic.

There you are young male Freepers, Cate Edwards ~ you can look her up on the net. About the 10th shot has her with her dad and mom and younger siblings (less one of course) and she has her skirt hiked up past her cheeks.

Yup, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree ~ then there's her picture where she's imitating Michelle Obama's scowl.

Looks like the Soros money was to buy reporters to "cover" state and local races which pretty much guarantees that he is infecting those races as well. Michigan's democrat candidate for secretary of state is one of his secretary of state project jewells.

The Michigan Republicans have a great ad out now.

Caught red handed

Read the article.

Look at it this way.

Why would you favor a child over others not on merit but because of who’s daughter she is?

Pretty sure it was Nina who claimed around the time of the Clarence Thomas hearings that she had been harassed at a previous job. Claimed she either left because of it or because she had filed a complaint. Liberal columnist Al Hunt was familiar with the situation, made it an “Outrage of the Week” because she had actually been let go due to plagiarism.
Maybe telling an outright lie, impugning the ethics of a prior employer, fall within NPR’s ethical guidelines.

Is Nina Totenberg the one who once opined “I don’t see how Nixon got elected - I don’t know anyone who voted for him”?

You are correct. I found several internet references to this.

Totenberg has charged that she was the victim of sexual harassment at the Observer. She said "I had a boss who made passes at me repeatedly," but has not named that person.[5] She was fired from that paper for plagiarism in 1972 regarding a profile she wrote of then-soon-to-be Speaker Tip O'Neill which included, without attribution, quotes from members of Congress that had previously appeared in The Washington Post. Such plagiarism has been called "one of the cardinal sins of journalism from which reporters can never recover their credibility",[6] but other reporters have defended her, saying the practice of using quotes in this manner was common journalistic practice in the 1970s.[4][7] Totenberg also links her dismissal to the sexual harassment case, saying it made her "unpopular with her superiors".[8] In 1995, Totenberg told the Columbia Journalism Review, "I have a strong feeling that a young reporter is entitled to one mistake and to have the holy bejeezus scared out of her to never do it again."[9]

The poor girl is already being punished by her parents. Can you honestly imagine having those bums as your mother and father?

For a journalist, this seems like a smart move as the girl presumably has lot’s of influential family contacts who might be potential sources.

One loves this nation. The other wants to tear it down.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pauline_Kael

Unsure. See below.

Nixon “quote”
Kael is frequently quoted as having said, in the wake of Richard Nixon’s landslide victory in the 1972 presidential election, that she “couldn’t believe Nixon had won”, since no one she knew had voted for him. The quote is sometimes cited by conservatives (such as Bernard Goldberg, in his book Bias), as an example of the alleged cluelessness and insularity of the liberal elite. There are variations as to the exact wording, the speaker (it has variously been attributed to other liberal female writers, including Katharine Graham, Susan Sontag, and Joan Didion),[42][43] and the timing (in addition to Nixon’s victory, it has been claimed to have been uttered after Ronald Reagan’s re-election in 1984.)[44]

There is, in fact, no record of Kael stating or writing this exact sentiment. The story most likely originated in a December 28, 1972 New York Times article on a lecture Kael gave at the Modern Language Association, in which the newspaper quoted her as saying, “I live in a rather special world. I only know one person who voted for Nixon. Where they are I don’t know. They’re outside my ken. But sometimes when I’m in a theater I can feel them.”[45]

Way, way back during the Bork hearings, one of the women of NPR did a hard-hitting fact-finding report about the judge’s video rentals. I don’t know which one - Mara, Nina, or Cokie. I sure wish I had made a recording of that program.

Just imagine: the horror! A nominee to the US Supreme Court rented ... First Blood!

Your tax dollars at work.

I think we should start calling her "Nina Totenkopf".

It's more in keeping with her philosophy and attitude toward political opponents.

Wow. The upper echelons of that list read like a whos-who of liberalism.

Protesting to them won’t do much good, but at least I have a list of new companies whose products and services are not welcome in my home.

Funny how the "porn addict" accusation against Clarence Thomas just now resurfaced, isn't it?

Agreed, but was she the most qualified? Or was this part of the good ‘ole girls network?
