A Saturday night baby shower at a Wilson fire hall spun out of control after the hall manager confronted party-goers about overcrowding and underage drinking, which led to a crowd of 100 out on the street fighting and causing a near riot, police said.

What are men doing at a baby shower?
I'm somewhat in touch with the underground Mexican nation that exists here in Nor Cal (there really is no better way to describe it), and I've been told by friends that they are reluctant, often, to have things like kids' birthday parties, quinceañeras, etc. etc. in any kind of publicly accessible place because these events always become an excuse for a big party that gets crashed by whichever groups of Mexican youth find out about it, and then, of course, the punching and stabbing starts. For example, I went to a wedding a while back of one of my Mexican friends' cousins, and they were nervous about having the reception at a community center because they thought it would get crashed and brawls would ensue. They were amazed when they got through the night relatively peacefully. However, there were some security guards, so that probably helped a bit.

‘Couples’ baby showers have been VERY popular here in CA for many years now, as ridiculous as it sounds. The ‘men’ also attend ‘bridal (or wedding) showers’ in many instances. But... nothing I’ve attended at a home or other venue has ever seen any trouble. Of course, I don’t have ‘friends’ like those described in the ‘baby shower brawl’ post. Absolutely disgusting.

A baby shower that ends in a riot. WTF?????? Also, I thought women attended baby showers only. Yes, as some of OP have said, men do attend them, but that is largely regional.

This apparently is typical of the mexican culture.
They have these huge “kid/baby” parties late at night, they go on late, late into the night, with incredible amounts of drinking, and invariably there’s a family clash.
Why not just let the fighters get into their cars and drive into each other? Because this is the other ‘cultural’ thing that occurs with these people. The guys and gals get totally drunk, then show what tough men and women they are and get behind the wheel and kill Americans.
