Young Frankenstein, Monty Python, and Airplane, I can live with. I’d probably toss in Caddyshack and Porky’s.

The first hour of Stripes is hilarious...then, not so much.

That WAS a funny scene! Now, after having watched it so many times and also having watched so many court room dramas, one of my favorite scenes has become when sleep-deprived Vinnie snoozes through the opening arguments of the prosecutor, then -- after being nudged awake by his clients -- has to make his own opening arguments.

He rubs his eyes, gets up, goes to the jury, and tells them:

"Everything that guy just said is bullsh*t." He starts to walk back to the table, remembers himself, and adds: "Thank you."

It's the most concise opening argument in film courtroom drama history! [^ )

I can't remember the title of the Ollie and Stan movie where Stan is always flicking his thumb as "lighter," it bursts into flames, and he's able to light a cigarette or a candle or a lamp. Every time he does it, Ollie is stumped; he tries it and of course, nothing happens -- his thumb just remains a plain old thumb. He tries it every time Stan does it, and is frustrated ... until finally he tries it and it works -- his thumb bursts into flames and he FREAKS OUT!

It's just hilarious. Oliver Hardy was so amazing, such a big fat guy and yet so graceful and light on his feet.

Sounds great! "The End." I'll look for it on Netflix. Thanks for the tip. Carl Reiner (in spite of his politics) was one of the funniest guys in film. He is an absolute HOOT in the old Dick Van Dyke series, especially the one where Laura accident blabs on national TV that he's actually bald but wears a toupee.

"Shut up, Mel."

3) Dawn of the Dead ( I laughed so hard at that movie my stomach hurt ).

Heh - I damn near choked on my popcorn during the "helicopter zombie" scene.

You are probably thinking of “Way Out West”, which has that delightful “Commence the Dancing” Dance in it.

Those gags Stan called “White Magic”, and he used it more and more as time went on.

I’d say look for the Dance on Youtube, but it has become a meme, so the original is hard to find.

Here, however, is a Way Out West Page for you.

Here’s an interesting tidbit I just found on that page - They call it, At the Ball that’s all - perhaps that’s the real name of the dance.

I didn't know that about the "White Magic." I love it! It was done also with shadows in some film, wasn't it?

I know the dance well -- we must have Way Out West, because we are prone to watch the movie and replay that scene a time or two because it's so funny. Ollie must have been (physical-wise) a bit like Chris Farley (another hilarioius comedian, and I still mourn his passing) in that he was pretty physically fit and athletic, believe it or not, under all that generous marbling. I think that the hippos in Fantasia must have been inspired by Ollie!

And you can see that the musicians are highly amused by the duo! It's fun to watch.

Stan was obviously the real dancer, from all his vaudeville training, but we get to hear Ollie SING!

What a gift these men gave us.

That is PRICELESS! I love the lady in the kind of bright, drapy long dress! And the kid in the kilt, or is it a girl? Just hilarious!

It really makes you appreciate how Ollie just eased into it so naturally, like he was making it up as he went! Me, I'm one of those people who would happily make a fool out of myself dancing for nothing but silliness if the music so inspired! And frequently do when I'm in the kitchen! [^ )

Your mention of Walter Matthau made remember a great one of his with Jack Lemmon...The Fortune Cookie.
