We picked up a pamphlet in Union Square to see why so many people are talking about the world ending on May 21, 2011.
It turns out the theory comes down to two numerological proofs.
The first proof is based on Genesis 7:4, when God said to Noah: "Seven days from now I will send rain on the earth for forty days and forty nights, and I will wipe from the face of the earth every living creature I have made."
When God referred to seven days, he meant both seven days and seven thousand years, because "one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day." The flood occurred in 4990 BC. Seven thousand years later is 2011. (Remember, there's no year 0.)
The second proof looks at the significance of the number of days between the Crucifixion and May 21, 2011.
There are 722,500 days between these dates. 722,500 is a significant number because it is composed of the significant numbers 5x10x17x5x10x17. Five signifies redemption; ten signifies completion; and 17 signifies heaven. The numbers represent the day of redemption (5) and the Christian era (10) and the ascent to heaven (17) -- and these factors are doubled for added significance.
We'll know for sure in 27 days.

Given the fact he’s already set one date and been proven wrong (oops! I made a calculation error!), Christians need to speak out against false teachers who mislead the church.

Did he take into account The Calendar Act of 1750 which adjusted the calendar by 11 days causing September 2nd, 1752 to be followed by September 14th? Boy, is he going to look silly if the world ends on June 1 instead of May 21!

He's already a false prophet. He has previously said that his methodologies showed that Jesus would return September the 6th, 1994. He previously said that the Church age had ended May 21, 1988.
And no, he should not be stoned to death. Christians are not bound by the Mosaic Law.

Anybody remember “88 Reasons why 1988”? I still have my copy. To remind me that only God the Father knows when.

Poor Sam Harris. He is the epitome of a man who embraces spiritual death. Why would ANYONE want to spend time reading his books?

According to NJ.com, many believers in the 21st date say the Bible contains unquestionable clues. God tells Noah the world will end in seven days; the Bible also equates a day to 1,000 years. The date of the flood has been set at 4990 B.C., so adding 7,000 years plus one for the missing year "0" produces the year 2011. Translating a Biblical reference to a month and date, from the Hebrew calendar to the Gregorian, results in May 21.
But the Hebrews read right to left, so it's really the 5th day of the 21st month, and they have 21 months only on Uranus, so next month, the whole world gets blown out Uranus.

Your rebuke assumes the mountains have always been at the present elevation, that the polar ice caps make no difference, and there is no water under land, just to name a few things. I am pretty certain there is a lot more to this, and to be so dismissive is a danger to your soul.
