SF Bay area FReeper seeks Harold Camping True Believer with really nice car. Prefer newer Acura w/V6 but will consider other makes if under 50k miles. I will buy now for $500. You dine in style ahead of your grand exit; I get good wheels.
This offer absolutely expires 11:59PM May 21st, 2011
I had to look up Harold Camping to understand your post, and I now find it hilarious. Thanks.
Hey, folks. Fan out and see if you can get me any action, here. I’m just sure there’s somebody out there who’s planning to take the holy ghost offramp May 21st, and would sell me their car for a nickel. Got any Nor-Cal Camping adherents in your Rolodexes? Family Radio claims 200,000 devotees; there’s gotta be ONE within 100mi of me willing to part with their A6, 735i, SLK 350, Passat, or something else nice. And I’m offering enough for a pretty swank dinner for two.
Go beat the bushes for me, if you would, and let me know what you turn up.
I just want to se the itnerview with his followers on May 22, to see their reactions.
No joke. I saw this guy Sunday afternoon driving down the interstate with custom-made magnetic signs on the doors of his new-ish Ford F250: “JUDGMENT DAY! May 21st”
I’m looking for one of ‘em who’s really serious and owns a plush ride.
Hafta wait and see, though. Well past midnight, here, and I’ve got work tomorrow.
Keep your eye out for the related story about the guy getting into the used car business.
What would they do with $500? Can’t take it with you!
Anoreth wants to sell her truck this summer.
I’m waiting for some to go all “Heaven’s Gate” when comet Elenin comes through in September.
I am smiling at the humor, but having known Mr. Comping from my childhood, I can only express sorrow at the foolishness.
While I disagree with the date setting of Camping I see no scriptural condemnation for those who watch for the Lords return. They are probably wrong on their interpretation of prophecy and will be disappointed as many have been throughout the years but they are truly watching and waiting as scripture instructs. Scoffers on the other hand are mentioned several times in scripture and not in glowing terms. You can rest assured I will not be numbered among the scoffers.
If someone offers up a muscle car instead, let me know. I’m preferential to old MOPAR’s or Goats. A 1970 GTO Judge would be perfect.

I’ve heard Camping when he was pretty much on track, but at some point he got the notion that anyone who disagreed with him was damned. Some of the people at WFME (New Jersey) kept their heads low when he stopped by. The big red flag went up in the late 80’s when he proclaimed that the Holy Spirit had departed, no one else was going to be saved, and the “church” should just hunker down and work to keep people from falling away. This may have been about the time of his prediction that 1994 was going to be it.
Boone Bible Ministries from Boone, IA. is paying for some of the billboards in the Twin Cities area. I can already hear the moonbats on 22 May.
Five hundred dollars would make for a really nice dinner for two; perhaps on May 20th.
One reason for trying to extract some humor, otherwise the whole sorry episode is just dismal.
Then, at random times, I taunt them:
"Hey kids! You want to go camping!"
"Yeah!"
"OK! HAROLD camping!"
Heh. You’ve got your wig on too tight.
Nobody’s scoffing at the idea of watching and praying for the Second Coming.
I am, however, using a humorous angle on this whole fiasco to make a rather serious point about faith and sincerity.
How many of Camping’s followers REALLY think May 21st is “it”? Are they “all in” or are 99% of them just sort of playing along to humor a foolish old man?
And, to answer the unasked question, “yes” if there were one who’s really “all in” on this May 21st deal, and really would sell me their car, I really would take go make the deal if I liked the car.
I’d make sure they had my number so we could fix the boo-boo later, but...
You are scoffing at the scoffers, you scoffer! :-)
