My sister stopped over this morning. We got back to talking about moving to another state....again.
She stated Texas has been calling her, she is an RN. The hospital she works at now used to have several booths, recruiting new grads. Now they have none. They are constantly invited to "luncheons", in which they do not participate. They have stopped hiring, as I have found out trying to find a new job.
My sister said they are encouraging recent grads to go to Texas, to get their bacholers & RN license.
I know, from FR, TX is booming. My sister has a friend who moved back to Houston, TX, owns 3 homes in which he rents and said he could get me a great paying job in the oil industry (I hehehe'd at that one).
With my sisters RN license, she wouldn't have a problem getting a job, and perhaps at the rate she is paid here in NY.
We are very nervous about leaving our home state, been here all our lives.....but they are killing us. She asked me to post a thread, specifically to TX FReepers, just for some information regarding the Houston area.
We are suburanites and very Conservative. We would NOT bid well in ANY area that is slightly blue.
We also have questions regarding weather. I (and my sister) must claim "stupid" regarding this subject. We are used to 4 seasons, etc. How is the Houston area, or it's suburbs(must be suburbs. We CANNOT live in a "city" type area).
If I remember correctly (in which she pointed out) Austin is lib, correct?
The last thing we want to do is move across county, only to wind up in a mini NY.
To all you Texans out there, any information would be grateful, especially around the Houston area.
Keep in mind....."THE REDDER THE BETTER".
I lived in Texas for a little over 2 years.
I can’t go back.
Too many gorgeous women -I’d get in trouble.
If you love heat and humidity, you will love Houston.
Lots of Katrina evacuees there also, so choose wisely where you decide to move to.

Voting With Our Feet
I concur that Pastor Chuck Baldwin was right when he “voted with his feet” and moved his family from Florida to Montana. Like Chuck Baldwin I believe that is time for freedom-loving Christians to relocate to something analogous to “Galt’s Gulch” on a grand scale.
Ol’ Remus of The Woodpile Report recently quoted an essay by economist Giordano Bruno, titled The Return Of Precious Metals And Sound Money. In it, Bruno stated: “If there is anything good to come out of our present predicament, it is that Americans, from average citizens to elected officials, are beginning to understand the reality of coming collapse and are preempting it with measures designed to insulate their communities from the inevitable firestorm. Houston is hot, humid, large, and mostly lib.
But ... you’re near the coast and not a far stretch for visiting New Orleans for an occasional getaway. Excellent beaches are just a bit further into Alabama.
Suburbs of Houston are going to be more conservative. I’d recommend Katy, Conroe, The Woodlands, or Sugarland.
Positives: It’s Texas. It’s not NY. Texas is conservative. Proximity to the Gulf.
Negatives: Large city. Liberal (but not as much as Austin). The occasional hurricane. And as mentioned ... hot and humid.
I escaped from Jersey in 2006 to plant roots in San Antonio. I don’t care if it is too hot. Dont care how big the bugs are. That’s why god created lizards.

Thank you. That is exactly the info I was looking for. Our summers are not only hot but HUMID. I don't know which is worse. But our summers here, we go from 1 air conditioned place to another.
When you say "the winters are not bad at all." does that mean I don't have to shovel 2 feet of snow just to get to work?
Spring and fall are my ABSOLUTE favorite seasons!

NY is NOT a member of the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC)
so she will have to go to a state that is(NH, RI) to take that state’s Nursing Exam and then she can practice in 26 states(for info see/https://www.ncsbn.org/nlc.htm).
I’m a Texan, but I live 400 miles North of Houston. Austin is very liberal, and from what I’ve heard, Houston is fairly liberal too. Sheila Jackson Lee is from Houston after all.
Having said that, there are tons and tons of Conservatives there too. I suppose like the rest of the country, once you get into a big city, you’re gonna have the lib elemenent more so than if you live in a smaller town or the boonies.
One thing you won’t get here in Texas, is 4 seasons. You’ll have 2, Summer and Winter. Fall and Spring last about a week each. It’s a bit cooler in Houston than in N. Tx but the humidity is higher. :)
Everything you have stated is exactly what my sister found. However, is Houston red, or a mix?
Hell & Texas
The Devil, we're told, in Hell was chained,

Lots of murders in Houston. Mexicans are taking over the state. Austin is super liberal but has good food and music n
Weather is super hot. State is huge and takes hours and hours to get to the major city. Traffic is a bitch.
See it all getting worse over the next 10-20 years.
Avoid border states. Live in low crime, low democrat area. Moderate weather. Low taxes. Texas ain’t the place. She’d also need to learn Spanish.

The only part of the state that gets much snow would be in the panhandle area. Around the rest of the state, everything comes to a standstill if we get a couple on inches.
If you move to Amarillo, maybe. Houston? You'll probably never see any of the white stuff ever again.
That has happened where I loved in GA and NC.
I asked one such complainer “if it was so much better back there then why are you here?”
Her answer, “the weather and lower taxes.”
Couldn’t get her to understand that there was a reason her taxes were higher back there and it had something to do with all the stuff she now said she missed and wanted.
But we are Conservative. Why wouldn't Texans want more of their values moving to their state?
If enough of us moved to TX, we could push out the "blues/commies".
