KEY WEST, Fla.-- Residents of Key West, Fla., who live in their vehicles are objecting to officials seeking to ban "lodging" in vehicles.

The Key West City Commission approved the new rules June 5, but the law must still pass a second public hearing and approval before it takes effect, KeysNet.com reported Thursday.

The ordinance, which was proposed by Mayor Craig Cates, states "lodging" in vehicles "constitutes a hazard to the health and safety of the residents (and) visitors to the city" and has "a significant negative impact that creates an adverse effect on tourism and the environment."

Kurt Wagner, who said he lives in a 1999 Dodge, said he objects to the law.

If the economy were to break down as Obama has been planning, expect to see a lot more of this. He wants these people! Tired, Hungry, living in cars, boxes, etc. so that he can promise them all your crap. A veritable army zombie-like followers to do his bidding.

What about sleeping in your converted luxury bus or RV....is this law simply a way of controlling poorer people?

This is the photo that should define anti-Obama advertizing for the 2012 election.

That man isn’t some bum that chooses to do the ‘urban camping’ thing. Before the policies of the Democrat Party became prominent with the Pelosi takeover, this was rare. Since then it’s far more common...BECAUSE of their green regulations, their financial regulations, their ignoring law in favor of agenda and their social engineering towards Communist existence.

This is the result of the Democrats given power. And irony is that there’s a 50 50 chance this guy voted for Obama. Print it out and hand it to liberals. George Bush did not put him in a trunk. Democrats did.

Well technically you need an address to get welfare or vote but you still are probably right.

I can't drive my house, but I sure can sleep in my car...except in Key West, apparently.

Spring break in the 80’s...did this many times. This of course was back when Key West offered some of the finer “hetero” entertainment experiences outside of Havana.

Key West - was just there. So let me get this straight:

With all the bars there, and people falling down drunk and deciding to sleep it off rather that causing a 100 mile traffic jam with an accident on US 1, they're proposing a new law saying 'You can't sleep in your car'...

... even though hotels are routinely full during cruise ship season?

Oh yeah, REAL smart, Key West. Here's a better idea: Let the roosters run things for awhile.

“Print it out and hand it to liberals. “

But first doctor it by adding a big red “Vote For Obama!” on it.

Or: “I voted for Obama and this is what I got!”

Key West PD

In June 1984, the Key West Police Department in Monroe County, Florida was declared a criminal enterprise under the Federal RICO statutes after a lengthy United States Department of Justice investigation. Several high-ranking officers of the department, including Deputy Police Chief Raymond Cassamayor, were arrested on federal charges of running a protection racket for illegal cocaine smugglers. At trial, a witness testified he routinely delivered bags of cocaine to the Deputy Chief's office at City Hall.
