Calf Roper Hog-Ties Suspected Tulsa Car Thief

TULSA, Oklahoma -

A Tulsa man is in jail after being captured and hog-tied by his would-be victim, according to Tulsa Police.

Tulsa Police say Kalvin Hulvey, 35, was arrested Monday afternoon and booked into the Tulsa County jail on a complaint of larceny of a motor vehicle.

Jeremy Penny, of Tulsa, spotted the suspect stealing his car, followed him, and yanked him out of the car. Then he and his father hog-tied him and suspended him on a nearby fence until police arrived.

Penny was with his brother and father baling hay Monday in a Tulsa field off North Garnett, when he spotted Hulvey stealing his 1997 Buick LeSabre.

"Saw the guy walking, but didn't pay him any mind," said Penny. "Then I looked back and I saw him taking off in my car."

Penny and his dad got in another truck and chased the driver to an intersection, where they all got caught up in traffic.

"I was really mad when I drove up next to him and he was changing my radio station," said Penny.

The 6-foot-5-inches, 240-pound Penny then yanked Hulvey out of the car. Then he and his father hog-tied Hulvey and secured him to a fence until police arrived.

"I rodeo, we both rodeo," said Penny. "But here lately, I've been having bad luck keeping calves tied, so he did the tying up. That way we made sure he stayed tied."

There’s a Sunoco station in Ohio that could use this guy’s services. They might even give him some free Reeses for his efforts.

After he finishes there...

As a commenter on the website pointed out, if the perp had been Black and the rodeo ropers White and left him tied to a fence, you can guess what the media reaction would’ve been.

If the races were reversed it would be called a lynching. That's no joke, it's for real.

You’re right, but come on, this is a great story. Just enjoy this guy putting one more dirtbag in jail all on his own.

Then I’m glad that the races weren’t reversed. I would be proud to be that gentleman’s neighbor.

Agreed. Occasionally, I think that we (and I include myself in this statement) overpoliticize things sometimes.

re: “Agreed. Occasionally, I think that we (and I include myself in this statement) overpoliticize things sometimes.”

I am also guilty of the overpliticizing thing as well. What I like about this guy is that he is a working man who defended his property - with style. I like how he said he went “rodeo” on him. Imagine, a black man who wasn’t ashamed to identify himself with cowboys and rodeos!

This man is a true American and should be celebrated by all other Americans. People in the comments section were having a great time.

I didn't say it wasn't a great story, I'm just saying how much different the story would've been reported were the races reversed.

“I was really mad when I drove up next to him and he was changing my radio station,” said Penny.

That’s my favorite part! If he had branded the guy like they do when they are roping calves for real, THAT would have been my favorite part!

I just hate it when people mess with my radio.

That image makes my day. If the little wimp criminal had any brains, he'd switch to stealing cars with "Hello Kitty" or COEXIST decorations. Being hog-tied and hung from a fence by someone the size of an NFL lineman has got to be scary.

The race of the two strikes me as irrelevant (not that the professional racists would have allowed that to stop them if the races had been reversed). The real danger would have been if the criminal hung from the fence had been gay - Matthew Shepard would have been dragged into the story somehow.
