'Justice League' #12: DC reveals Superman's new leading lady... and it's a doozy - EXCLUSIVE
Entertainment Weekly ^ | Aug 22 2012 | Jeff Jensen

When DC Comics rebooted its entire line of superhero titles last year, the publisher did away with Superman’s marriage to Lois Lane to pave the way for a new romance. Without further ado, EW can exclusively reveal that Superman’s new partner in love is no mere mortal, but a superhero icon in her own right: None other than Wonder Woman. herself. Their next level relationship begins in the pages of Justice League #12...

The comic, which goes on sale Aug. 29, culminates months of flirty foreshadowing. Writer Geoff Johns hints that some event — possibly tragic — will impact every member of the Justice League, and cause Superman and Wonder Woman to seek solace in each other and move from super-powered colleagues to power couple. This is no one-issue stunt: “This is the new status quo,” says Johns, adding that the relationship will have a seismic impact on all the heroes and villains in the DC universe.

For the smooch featured on the comic’s cover, artist Jim Lee took inspiration from Gustav Klimt’s The Kiss and Alfred Eisenstaedt’s V-J Day in Times Square photograph. The creative team believes the heroes are right for each other. She’s a mythic Amazonian warrior; he’s a veritable demigod. Both have huge hearts for mankind, yet also feel estranged from humanity. Relationships with civilians are tricky for caped crusaders, even liabilities. Usually, they choose to mask their full, true identities and hide their secret, high-risk do-gooding from their lovers to protect them. At least together, Superman and Wonder Woman can be themselves. Oh, and they’re also ridiculously good looking, too. Still, says Johns, expect the new couple to face some unique challenges in their own right.

This isn’t to say that fans will understand or support the hook-up. In fact, Johns and Lee expect some outcry and certainly some debate. Actually, they’re counting on it. ”Hopefully this will raise a lot of eyebrows,” Lee says. “We welcome the watercooler chatter.”

I’m pleasantly surprised to see that Superman is still involved with a woman.

In today’s leftist PC climate, I half-expected to see Superman making out with Flash Gordon.

First off, how many $%@* times is DC gonna reboot their continuity?!?!

I thought the Supes/WW thing was handled best by Alan Moore in "For The Man Who Has everything" in a World's Finest annual. WW gives Supes a birthday kiss and Supes wonders why they don't do that more often. WW replies "Too obvious."

After all these years, I still don't like Jim Lee's artwork. Gimme Curt Swan, Dave Gibbons or Joe Kubert anyday.

Finally, BRING BACK GIANT TURTLE OLSEN!!!

Well, he does wear tights! Maybe the Wonder Woman thing is just a cover for his true love: Jimmy Olsen

Superman is screwed. He now has to deal with the lasso of truth or whatever it’s called.

Well it solves the whole, Man of Steel, Woman of Kleenex issue that he would have with Lois Lane...

What’s the comic book universe coming too? Is Archie marrying Veronica going to be next?

My favorite Superman/Wonder woman joke - wonder if I could get away with it here?

Superman comes into the superhero’s convention - his eyes are black, his arm is broken, splints on both legs. The Green Hornet says, “my gosh, what happened to you?”

Superman replies, “I was flying down to the convention and what do I spy below me but Wonder Woman laying on the beach, completely naked. She has her legs spread, she’s withering in ecstasy, and she’s looking straight up at me. Well I know an invitation when I see one, and so does my little friend between my legs. I slipped off my super tights and dove down landing on top of here at nearly full force.

Green Hornet, “and she did all this to you?”

Superman, “no the invisible man did - boy was he pissed.”

Good news for Jimmy Olsen

Jimmy Olsen’s Blues - The Spin Doctors

Well, I don’t think I can handle this
A cloudy day in Metropolis
I think I’ll talk to my analyst
I got it so bad for this little journalist
It drives me up the wall and through the roof
Lois and Clark in a telephone booth
I think I’m going out of my brain
I got it so bad for little miss Lois Lane

Lois Lane please put me in your planner
Yeah, Lois Lane you don’t need no Super Man
Come on downtown and stay with me tonight
I got a pocket full of kryptonite

He’s leaping buildings in a single bound
I’m reading Shakespeare at my place downtown
Come on downtown and make love to me
I’m Jimmy Olsen not a titan, you see
He’s faster than a bullet, stronger than a train
He’s the one who got lucky got his cape around miss Lois Lane
I can’t believe my dilemma is real
I’m competing with a man of steel

Man of Steel, Woman of Kleenex ... an analysis by Larry Niven.

Perhaps with Wonder Woman, it would be less of a problem.

Why the hell when writers get bored of Clark and Lois, they ALWAYS pair up Superman and Wonder Woman?

Linkara will not be pleased.

This pairing makes more sense than Batman and Wonder Woman.

Pairing up Superman with a bad-girl superhero would have been much more interesting.
