Dogs gone wild! Pack of crazed pit bulls demolish California minivan

Palm Springs, California - This stray kitten was stuck in the bumper of a Dodge minivan and survived a 25-mile drive to Palm Springs and an attack by four pit bulls, who mauled the car's bumper. It has been named Fender Lynx.

A pack of pit bulls ripped through the front of a Southern California man’s minivan in a stunning display of force that would make Cujo cringe.

So what drove the dogs to such destruction? A kitty stuck in the bumper area, Palm Springs police Sgt. Mike Kovaleff said Tuesday.

The unidentified owner of the Dodge minivan was parked at his home in Banning when he saw the damage to his vehicle Monday morning, according to CBS affiliate KESQ in Palm Springs.

yes, German Shepherds had such a reputation. But my first dog was a German Shepherd back in the 1960s and she was the sweetest animal you could imagine. She was my BEST dog in all those years.

Pit bulls, like any other breed, if given the RIGHT training AND genetics, can become a great pet. Teddy Roosevelt and Patton both had one.

But unlike most other breeds, they are one of the few designed to fight other dogs in a really sick and twisted “sport”.

I’m in agreement.

Shepherds, BTW, are my favorite breed. My husband’s sister had one for protection. He was trained like a soldier, and if you were stupid enough to threaten his family, he could take you out. But with us, he was a big ball of love.

Almost all of the fighting dogs abused by Michael Vick were successfully rehabilitated and adopted into good homes.

Hmmmm. "Successfully rehabilitated" seems awfully subjective to me. As in, they were successfully rehabiliated.... until they mauled their new owners to death.

I know a guy with a Jack Russell. A mouse or chipmunk crawled up underneath his Ford big SUV. Later, he had a new wiring harness installed after getting it towed to town.

I believe that. My sister-in-law and her husband had to spell words around their Shepherd, and she told me she thought the dog was beginning to figure them out anyway, LOL.

Perhaps that term would have to be considered subjective with all rescued, rehabilitated dogs. I can't find the exact number, but I've read that the majority of the pits are now pets in good homes; so far, there have been no incidents. Actually it's surprising, considering the brutality those dogs underwent.

Back in the 60s, before anyone ever heard of pitbulls, I had a friend who owned one. One day he was driving his VW bug with the dog in the front seat when a Buick Opal came across center line and hit him head on. Nobody was seriously hurt, but the dog was thrown through the windshield and out onto the pavement. He got up, shook his head, charged the Opal and tore it's front tire to pieces. Tough dog, that.
