Suppose there could only be 5 Federal holidays...and you got to choose them.  Which would you pick?

Suppose that for whatever reason, the United States decided to limit the number of Federal holidays to five...and it's up to you to decide which five they are.  Which would you pick?  For reference's sake, here's the current list:

New Year's Day
Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr.
President's Day
Memorial Day
Independence Day
Labor Day
Columbus Day
Veterans Day
Thanksgiving Day
Christmas Day

If there's a holiday you want that's not on the list, you can pick it.

Full disclosure:  I'm stealing the idea from this thread from Democratic Underground:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/10021495822

The most five most popular holidays at DU are Labor Day at #1 (big shock there), followed by Independence Day, Memorial Day, Thanksgiving Day, and New Year's Day.  Christmas didn't make the cut, coming in at #7.  Surprisingly, there wasn't a single vote for Martin Luther King's Birthday...although Election Day was almost as popular Christmas, and there were multiple votes for a Generic Religious Holiday Day as well the various solstices and equinoxes.

They also want to change Columbus Day to the Indigenous Day of Remembrance...

Anyhoo, I'll start it off with my 5 picks:

Memorial Day
Independence Day
Veterans Day
Thanksgiving Day
Christmas Day

Suppose we limited the laws to 5 pages. What would you keep? This is what is needed to keep government limited, quantify it as government is becoming unlimited.

Currently there are tens of thousands of pages of laws and even more of government regulations.

Washington’s birthday
Independence Day
Constitution Day
Thanksgiving
Christmas
New Years

But I would have much of the government at home most of the year already.

The FedGov would simply make pages the size of Texas and print the size of dust mites.

Why should the government get paid for not showing up?

Yes true , then we’d have to limit the laws to the number of words and letters, limit it to 5000 words of laws. this is the only solution I see, quantify limited government as the founding fathers tried to limit government with the constitution but democrats have gone around the constitution the latest is the 3000 pages of Obamacare that already has 13,000 pages of government regulations ( there is no way the constitution intended this monstrosity )

Let’s see. Keep:

- Washington’s (or Lincoln’s) Birthday
- Memorial Day (roll Veteran’s Day into this as well)
- Independence Day
- Thanksgiving
- Christmas

Optional:
- Super Bowl Monday (need to recover from the booze and food)
- New Year’s Day (same reasoning)

WAAAAAAY OUTTA HERE:
- Labor Day (too Unionized)
- MLK Birthday (40 years after his assassination, how far have race relations digressed? Even King would be ashamed!)

How about this:

If the “Law” won’t fit on a 3x5 card, in 8pt type, declare it an onerous POS, and scrap it, until it will fit, concisely and clearly. IMO, there’s no “Law” which can’t be revised to fit that criteria.
